Setting a checkbox to "checkedbased on a session.variable

Situation: set a dialog checkbox control based on the contents of a session variable. The state of the checkbox is being saved to a logical field in table and to a session variable before the user is being directed to a new web page that contains a dialog to enter data for a new record in the table.

Challenge: Set the checkbox control to the same state as it was in the old dialog.

Tried: Use the session variable in the default property for the checkbox control.

Whether I set the session.var1 as l = .t. or session.var1 as c = "true" the check box is not checked. (I do know that I have to type "true/false" in the default if I want to set the check box using the default property to one or the other.)

How do I set the default based on a session variable? (all of the other fields that I want to set using session variables are setting fine using the session.variable in the default property for the control. These other fields are all text boxes and the session.variables are character)

It seems that there is a difference in the way that Live Preview and Working Preview deal with session variables and logical checkbox values.

The MySQL table I'm using, bound to the dialog, has a field named Chkbox1, TinyInt(1). The Dialog is being opened by a button on a Grid.

I have a dialog with a checkbox control on it. The checkbox is numeric, with "Treat field as a Logical field" checked.

In Live Preview, in the onDialogExecute event I'm testing for the value of the checkbox AFTER I go get a record from a bound table.

The value from the Checkbox is "true" or "false", but when it gets assigned to a session variable it turns into 0 for both "true" and "false"

In Working Preview, same scenario, the session variable value is correct as "true" or "false"

So, testing this is troublesome in Live Preview.

In Live Preview, going to a browser, it's the same.

So, here is a solution.

In the Grid, I have an OnGridInitialize event with just this one statement.

session.mycheck = 1

In the Dialog, onDialogInitialize Event (this only gets run once)

e.javascript = "{dialog.Object}.setValue('CHKBOX1'," + session.mycheck + ");"

In the onDialogExecute event

e.javascript = "{dialog.Object}.setValue('CHKBOX1'," + session.mycheck + ");"

In the afterDialogValidate event

session.mycheck = e.dataSubmitted.CHKBOX1

If e.dataSubmitted.CHKBOX1 = "true" then
	session.mycheck = 1
else
	session.mycheck = 0
end if

ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Data::SaveRecord")

If we don't check, and change, the value of the control, then the assignment to the session var is always 0. IOW, take out the above IF statement and we get different results in Live and Working Previews.

There are a bunch of ways to use the checkbox control... numeric, logical, treat as logical etc. I haven't tried them all, but the above makes sure the initial value of the control is what you want when it's opened, and again after it's changed and saved.

I am just getting back to the page where this is relevant and I currently have the database in dbf format but plan on migrating to sql so I will try to implement your instructions and let you know how it goes.
