Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print/Preview Page Layout Report

I have created a simple report using the new 'Page Layout Report', and can preview it in design mode. Now I am trying to call the report from a button on a grid. If I use the Open Report action js, it displays in pdf which defeats its purpose. When I convert it to HTML and embed it in an a5w page (as indicated in the wiki), it is all mumbled jumbled when displayed. Any comments?

    And the purpose is what?

The convert to html has always been problematic. I've either used a grid to show data via html or generated the html code with xbasic.

Well, the purpose is to simply display the report using this new page layout feature. Alpha is clearly recommending using this new feature which does not use the Amyuni driver for HTML or Excel output. Is there a way to display/Preview/Print the report in HTML the same way one can display a report in pdf?

        Re: Print/Preview Page Layout Report

Gaby - glad you brought up this subject. I just tried it, and yep, there is the HTML report showing up as a PDF. One of the main "purposes this defeats" for me, is having reports from A5 completely display (and therefore print) on an iPad. When reports, either the "usual way" or with this "new and improved" method, are displayed on an iPad, only what is initially visible is all that is available; they do not scroll. I re-watched the pertinent video from Steve Workings, thinking I remembered him generating an actual HTML report, but nope, when it is activated, it shows up in the PDF viewer ... thereby defeating the one of the "purposes" of an HTML report There's probably a way to do this, so I am open to suggestions and will be doing some more experimenting in the meantime :)

          Re: Print/Preview Page Layout Report

          Update:

Managed to get the HTML report to fully display and print from the iPad :) Used the Print Genie on the report (right click from the Control Panel "Reports" tab), Save to File, Save As: Dynamic HTML File -- Options: HTML File Type > Single File. Called the resulting file from a button and yep, there it is in it's entirety :) As there are no "record / page selection" options in the iPad print function, one would have to create the desired length report(s) in advance (my test one had 33 pages! ... had to "kill" the printer after a couple or three) :)
          Cheers!

Update: scratch the above idea ... the report is "static". Back to the drawing board :)
