Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to...remember page scroll position?

How do I tell my dialog/a5 page to remember its current scroll position after a grid refresh is issued? I have this annoying issue where the page pops to the top every time a search is submitted from my dialog. For small screens, the user may be required to scroll --- reorganizing controls doesn't always solve this problem! For some operations, when they click buttons or move sliders, the grid auto-updates with search results. It also pops back to the top of the page! I don't want this. Here's some pictures:

    SearchBar.png

If the user clicks one of them...

    Selection.png

The page pops to the top!

I already tried to capture & set the page scroll information before & after my search operation in the search button's onClick event. Tried all client & server-side events in the dialog. Problem is, that's not where I need to set it. I need to set the scroll position after the Grid's refresh event is complete --- but not ALL the time. Just after a search is issued. This is all using the new power search feature. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance

This is well beyond my skills, but perhaps you might be able to incorporate the "scroll to" function $swto(ELEMENT as element/string)

Just a thought. Others may have better suggestions for you.

This looks like an XBasic function that does the same thing that I was attempting to do in JavaScript. I can set the window position easy enough. It's the when I'm having issues with. I suppose I can try using swto and see if that gets me anywhere. But if the window refreshes AFTER I call swto, I don't think I'm going to have much success.

Maybe I shouldn't be looking in A5 for the answer. I might be able to do something with good old fashioned JavaScript & HTML in the a5w page.

Did you ever figure this one out? I'm in need of the same solution.

Ah. At the time, I gave up. But since then, I've found other page scrolling problems that I've resolved by squirreling away the scroll position & setting it after the web browser is done with it's crazy shenanigans.

Do you have an example that you can share? Thanks in advance.

Are you refreshing the a5w page when submitting? Because scrolling back to the submit button position would be easy in that case.

Re: How to...remember page scroll position?

In one case I'm using an embedded grid with live link. If I scroll down to the bottom of the grid and then change the category (filter) the gird doesn't scroll back up to the top, but hangs around the bottom. I was hoping there were methods to control the scroll bar. In other cases I'd like the grid to remember where it's at. It works great if I call a PDF. However, If I call a UX form, when I exit the form the grid scrolls to the top. I've used the {grid.Object}.setSelectedRow(rowNum [,flagRefreshLinkedContent]); method which highlights the row, but it doesn't down to it.

This thread talks about capturing the scroll position: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...croll-Position

I posted about doing something similar in the V12 forums: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...l=1#post672818

This is also a method called {grid.object}.setFocus(rownumber) --- never used it, so I don't know what/if it does anything.

Thanks. I've used {grid.object}.setFocus(rownumber) and it will highlight the row. However, it won't scroll to it.
