Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to remove the box around Linked Grids\Content

    I hope this is a simple question....when you create a linked grid it draws a box around it (see image) that I just don't want. How do you remove it?

    Alpha should give us more direct control of all these HTML elements. What I did was use a master template and then create a 2nd HTML table w. the child grid. That fixes it. I suppose you could explicitly set the size of that cell as well, rather than use a 2nd table..

      Hi Tom - no ummm.. I wrote to Selwyn a couple of years ago about this ...

      Here the reply it's all technical stuff so I hope the post does not get deleted. - I stuffed around with it - but gave up - please - if you figure it tell me and I'll pay for drinks and dinner next time we meet.

      well, you could confirm your theory by going to Firebug.
      Then go to the consol window and type

      e = $('GRID1__UNBOUND_LINKEDGRID_1_G_R1.TABBAND');
      e.style.borderStyle = 'none';

      that will turn off the border for the div

        This works nicely... I put this code into the Client-Side Event - onGridRenderComplete - of the main grid. Replace the linked grid name with yours.

        Code:
        $('GRID1_LCS_MOVIEINFO.0.PANE').style.borderStyle = 'none';

              In Firebug, I right-clicked in all that white space beside the linked grid, and selected Inspect Element with Firebug. Then I moved my cursor around a bit in the HTML code until the entire section was highlighted... the "PANE" section. I saw that it was set for display:block so I figured that was good place to start since the entire border was also highlighted... see the attached image. Deal on the drinks... although I think I already owe you a few.

                David.....I tried this and when I run it in "Working" or "Live" Preview it works great.....but when I publish it locally or to an external host it doesn't work. Any thoughts?

                  When you publish it, and run it... run it in Firefox and Firebug and check that the ID is still the same... it can, and does, change. For example, when published this is the ID I must use...

                  GRD_SQL_VI_LCS_CHILDORDER.0.PANE

                  However, this is the Live Preview ID

                  GRID1_LCS_CHILDORDER.0.PANE

                          Hi Chaps,

                          I have a main Grid and 2 linked Grids on a tabbed UI Page and this technique works great in Firefox but it makes no difference in IE8.

                          Any ideas?

                          Thanks

                            Hey Chris,

                            Are you talking about exactly the same problem?

                            When I run this grid, inside a tabbed ui pane, the original problem actually doesn't exist.

                            When I run this grid, without the tabbed ui, with the linked Grid, in Live Preview, the extended box surrounds the linked grid. Then, while in Live Preview, if I further run the grid in IE, Chrome, or FireFox, the extended box is still then, and is removed by the code posted.

                            However, when this grid is run inside a tabbed ui, the original problem does not exist... the extended box is not there. The box is there, but it's no longer extended past the grid. See the attached image.

                            Now... I kinda assumed this was the original problem. Tom said he didn't want the box, but I assumed that was because it was extended. Personally, I don't care if the box is there, just as long as it behaves itself and is not wider than the grid.

                              If you don't want a box at all, then, because you're in a tabbed UI, things get a bit more complicated.

                              Code:
                              $('TBI_DLG_MOVIE__20137UUET_GRDMOVIECOVER_LCS_MOVIEINFO.0.PANE').style.borderStyle = 'none';
                              turns off the box around the linked grid in my tabbed ui. So, you need to find the right name of your published, resolved tabbed ui linked grid.
