Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Opening an individual grid

    Hi

I would like to open a grid with a different table (same structures) for individual users.
(worst case it could be a different window or Tab_UI with that table embedded).

So if Alice and Bob are in the same dialog clicking on the same button I want to get different data sets from tbl_Bob and tbl_Alice in the window that will open.

Unfortunately the text mode of the "open Grid" command looks like "{grid.componentName}_4FE9F2F056AB4E3B89757854F779BF26(this);"

Which does not help a lot.

    I need something that is like "Open(.... tbl_" + e.session.USERID .... )"

and no, I cannot use a table with a field with the name and filter on that, which would seem to be a good idea.

    Thanks for any pointers

    Re: Opening an individual grid

This one was fun ... thanks.

Once again... Alpha to the rescue... allowing you access to a bunch of really nice stuff... including the Xbasic Settings that go into making a grid. When you're developing your Grid, you'll see two tabs at the bottom of the main page... "Settings" and "Xbasic". Click on Xbasic and you'll see all the details that make up your grid. One of those is...

    Code:
tmpl.CS.SQL = "SELECT [ProdId], [ProdName] FROM [tblproducts]"
You can't change anything here, but using the Grid Server-Side Event OnGridExecute you can do something like this...

    Code:
    e.tmpl.CS.SQL = Session.PersonSelect
In your dialog, you're opening the above grid with, let's say, buttons and Action Javascript.

The Action Javascript has two entries.

    1. Ajax Callback to an Xbasic Function
    2. Open the Grid

Each button can either have it's own Ajax Callback function, or, you could create just one function and then access Dialog data inside that function which will determine a Session Variable.

For example, I have an Xbasic function named Table1 that I call from my Dialog button. That function is...

    Code:
    function Table1 as c (e as p)

Session.PersonSelect = "SELECT [ProdId], [ProdName] FROM [tblproducts]"

    end function
The function sets the Session variable that will be used in the Grid to determine the table to be used.

    Very cool.

I don't know if you're opening the Grid with different data sets for editing or not. If so, then other stuff will have to be done I would think. This looks after just getting the data.
