Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Closing a window after submit

    I have a main grid, grid1, and another grid, grid2, that is opened by a button on grid1.

    After people have submitted the information that they entered in grid2, and click on submit, and want to close grid2.

    How can I do that.

        Would this help? Read through the entire post - it starts out talking about an embedded grid... but it's really a grid in a pop-up window... like yours?

          Thanks guys for all of the input, but this is a grid in a div not a popup window.

          So the statement does not work

          if(e.hasErrors == false) {
          {grid.object}.closeParentContainer();
          }

            if your grid1 is contained in an .A5W page, this might offer the help you need: You need to ask the parent to do the closing.
            See the part about window.parent.closeParentA5Window('WINDOWX');

              Now that we know the grid is within a div... and I'll bet that div has an id, you can use one of two methods...

              From w3schools.com...

              Code:
              Hiding an element can be done by setting the display property to "none" or the visibility property to "hidden". However, notice that these two methods produce different results:
              visibility:hidden hides an element, but it will still take up the same space as before. The element will be hidden, but still affect the layout.
              $('divId').style.visibility = 'hidden';

              or

              $('divId').style.display = 'none';

                Re: Closing a window after submit

                This is the code I have in the 2nd grid $('ADDNOTES').style.display = 'none';, I have this in the Client-side Events in the afterGridSubmit.

                This is what I have in the grid1 : <div id="ADDNOTES" style="border:1 px solid black;"></div>

                The div does not close when I click on the submit button, so what am I doing wrong.

                  Dave,

                  Do you know of an equivalent way to close a dialog pop-up after the submit button is pressed? The dialog window is triggered by the "New Record" button from a grid.

                  The dialog client side events don't seem to have anything like 'afterGridSubmit' that I can see.

                  I tried using the code below in the javascript for OnClick for the Submit button - but that second line broke the component.

                  {dialog.object}.submit()
                  {dialog.object}.closeParentContainer(this);

                  Any thoughts?

                    So... is the DIV ID for GRID2 "ADDNOTES"?

                      Bill_from_jpt,

                      For closing modal GRID popup called via a Dialog2, the technique here http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/V1..._AutoClose.swf from video 54 kind-of works for me It doesn't work when calling an A5w page, though. I don't know if it works when calling another Dialog2.

                      I am actually doing this in just a test app and my Dialog2 component has 4 buttons on it that call the same grid component, but they set different values for some session variables. I am stuck on trying to get the popup grid to fully re-initialized when called from the various different buttons. After I open the grid via a second button then I cannot open the grid again using the first button. Well the grid does open, but it does not fire the same Javascript events as it did the first time and I cannot get the grid initialized the way I want.
