Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Submit data to more than one table

    Using the new Dialogue feature of the v11 (Build 2687; sys addins build 3930)
    I created four different tab panes with various fields from three different dbf.
    Working preview looks great
    I ensured the parent is linked to two child dbf files.
    (first two tabs are for parent dbf and next two tabs are for two child dbf).
    I also ensured all controls are binding to the appropriate dbf files.
    I also inserted the predfined submit/reset controls.
    I went to the server side and (using action script ) ensured the submit button saves all controls to differnet dbf files.
    But after the data entry when I hit submit, I notice only the parent dbf gets updated. The two child dbf does not update anything from the screen. No error either. I think I am using the most current build. Could this be some sort of bug?

    Could you post your tables and dialog so we could have a look? Really hard to tell, in this case, without seeing the stuff.

      DATA STRUCTURES.pdf
      I applied the latest patches. Now the tables are getting updated. Only the repating sections' total amt field is not getting
      updated to the dbf file. The second repeating sections total is also not getting updated. I do see these totals on the screen (textfields are visible). The bindings are to the parent dbf. They are all numeric. I still do not see any error but the dollar number or hour numbers do not update the field. Thank you indeed for your help.

        Put this code in the AfterDialogValidate. My code has some total and subtotal fields (below) that were not getting updated because they were not dirty. You can make them dirty with this code and they will get saved.

        if e.dirtyColumns <> ""
        dim AddFields as c
        Addfields = <<%text%
        OrderDate
        OrderQuote
        Subtotal
        ExtAmount
        SalesTax
        OrderTotal
        Balance
        DiscAmount
        TotalProfit
        %text%
        e.dirtyColumns = remove_blank_lines(e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ AddFields)
        end if

          Thanks. You have clued me in to the problem. I can manually key in the number into these calculated fields and they get saved because it becomes dirty as soon as I manually enter something there. So your code is now making a lot of sense.

            Re: Submit data to more than one table

            This is from the dialog afterDialogValidate event...

            Code:
            'e.dataSubmitted - contains all values that were submitted by the Dialog
            'e.oldDataSubmitted - contains the original values in the controls

            'The list of dirty submitted fields is in: e.dirtyColumns. This is a CRLF delimited string of dirty fields (i.e. fields
            'edited by the user). For example:
            'FIRSTNAME
            'QTY_A5INSTANCE3

            '========================================================================================================
            'IMPORTANT: If your event handler modifies a value in the e.dataSubmitted object (and that field has NOT
            'been edited by the user), you MUST explicitly add the field to the e.dirtyColumns value yourself.
            'For example, assume that you want to set the Company field to 'Alpha' and the 'Qty' field in row 1 of a repeating section
            'regardless of whether the user edited the value or not:
            'e.dataSubmitted.COMPANY = "alpha"
            'e.dataSubmitted.QTY_A5INSTANCE2 = "2"
            'e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf()+ "COMPANY" + crlf() + "QTY_A5INSTANCE2"
            '========================================================================================================
