Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Page Effects with A5W

    I haven't seen this addressed anywhere and it possibly might go into the "Wishlist".

    Is there a way to do page transitions such as fade in / fade out? I have an opening screen that I want to show the user. I want to run a flash animation on my "Index.a5w" page, then after a few seconds, I'd like to dissolve this into my login page.

    I'm trying to do this with HTML code in the a5w pages, but it's not working out too well.

    BTW, here is the HTML code I have been using...

    <meta http-equiv="Page-Enter" content="revealTrans(Duration=3.0,Transition=12)"> <meta http-equiv="Page-Exit" content="revealTrans(Duration=3.0,Transition=12)">

    Doesn't seem to want to work though.

    Thanks,

    Charlie

    This is kind of cool... takes a little bit of work, but it's not too bad. I don't know if you've got your flash animation running - not sure if that was part of your question, but you do ask about fade in/out transitions.

    Let's use jQuery for this...

    In your Login.a5w page, at the top, in the <head> section, after the 3 lines of meta... put this...

    Code:
    <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.16/jquery-ui.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script>    if(typeof jQuery != 'undefined') jQuery.noConflict();</script>

    <script type="text/javascript">
        jQuery(document).ready(function() {
                jQuery("body").css("display", "none");
    		    jQuery("body").fadeIn(2000);
        });
    </script>
    Here we're setting up the jQuery libraries, doing the noConflict stuff so that we can use jQuery and then running some code that basically says fade-in everything in the body over 2 seconds. This will fade-in the Login.

    Next I'm going to assume a pretty simple Login Component.

    Edit your Login Component, get into the Login Layout Options, click on Freeform Layout and then get into the Freeform Template, and click on Revert to Default Layout. This should give you the basic HTML for the Login page.

    On the line where you see {SubmitButton} replace that whole line with this...

    Code:
          <td colspan="2" class="GrGrayButton"><input id="Login_submitbutton" class="GrGrayButton " type="submit" value="Login" onclick = "jQuery('body').fadeOut(3000);" name="submitbutton">&nbsp;{ResetButton}</td>
    You can see we're adding an onclick event here. Thanks to "RichCPT" in this thread

    http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...-Component-CSS for the information. Just love this board.

    The onclick event fades out the Login Component.

    Lastly, on the a5w page that opens after the login is good, put in the same code in the <head> section as we did for the Login a5w page... to fade-in your grid.

    The only part I had trouble with in all this was using the built-in jQuery libraries... just couldn't get them to work - which is why I put the libraries in directly. I guess I'm missing something... just don't know what.

    Hope it helps.

      Wow! Many thanks. This will give me something to ponder and try out.
