Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Image lost when grid record edit cancelled

    I have a grid that contains an image related to each record. If I make changes to the record, then cancel the edits with {grid.Object}.resetDetailView(); the image is no longer displayed.

    It doesn't matter whether I've set the image to updateable or not -- in fact, it's not.

    Firebug shows me when I first load the grid and display it, that the image source is correct:

    src="/imgs_animals/135fa.jpg"

    But when I cancel and lose the image, Firebug tells me why the image isn't showing with this error message:

    "NetworkError: 404 Not Found - http://204.8.83.253/session_folders/f36e5583a2274d2c8ee09a8a7da99b84/13%5fa.jpg"

    I even did this for the Action Button I'm using to cancel:

    Code:
    var cx=document.getElementById('WORK_SESSION.D.V.R1.PICTURE1').src;
    alert(cx);
    {grid.Object}.resetDetailView();
    document.getElementById('WORK_SESSION.D.V.R1.PICTURE1').src=cx;
    And, the alert shows the correct source yet Firebug is still showing the same error and the picture's not there.

    Also: the image is set up as an image reference. The display format is set as <Image File Reference Field> and the image path is correct (or it wouldn't display properly in the first place).

    Any thoughts?

    Have you watched the session folder to see what happens? I assume that the physical image still exists and is not actually deleted? If so, can you refresh the record/row/whatever on the cancel?

      Well, I'm starting with

      {grid.Object}.resetDetailView();

      Which does a great job in other circumstances that don't include an image reference file.

      And then none of these make any difference in recovering the original src reference:

      //{grid.Object}.detailViewRefresh();
      //{grid.Object}.refreshRow(1);
      //{grid.Object}.refresh();

        Not that it helps, but I have a grid with some info fields and an Image field set to Image Reference field. It uses a DBF file as it's table. It's got a search, grid and detail part with the image displayed in the detail section. I've added a button to the detail that fires off {grid.Object}.resetDetailView(); My image stays... and no errors under Firebug. I'll change it over to SQL to see if there's a difference.

          Thanks David.

          It occurred to me to put the default A5 Cancel edit button back into the toolbar --- I'm replacing it with my own as action buttons. I figured if that preserved the image then I might find something I missed. It did not -- cancelling the record edit loses the image because it's changing its image source to a non-existent file in the session folder.

            Just 'cuz this is sinking to the bottom of the page doesn't mean it's fixed. Anyone else have a situation like this? I'm guessing that any SQL-based grid with an Image File Reference should a reasonable apples-apples comparison.

              I created a copy of my DBF table under MySQL, created a copy of my Grid with a Detail View and an Image Reference Field and published. The image displays fine when the grid opens and when I make changes to the detail view and click my button which fires {grid.Object}.resetDetailView(); the detail resets the changes I made and the image stays in place. Have you tried creating a new, really simple grid with a detail view?

                Just a guess, but you might try reload() instead of refresh().

                  Thanks for the effort David.

                  Pat - I don't see any reload() javascript grid method? I tried {grid.object}.reload() but it made no difference.

                    Steve,

                    Try in line javascript with location.reload();

                    There are three paragraphs in my JavaScript book that essentially say "try it and maybe it will work"

                    It is also browser dependent, but maybe it will work for you.

                      Well, location.reload() did re-load the whole page. Problem is that the grid is in a popup window, so this loses the grid completely and reloads the parent page.

                      location.replace() had no effect.

                      All the location.xxx functions are available with A5's autocomplete feature.

                          No David, I'd have to collect images, SQL 2012 dump -- just too much.

                          Got bigger fish to fry, and am going to have to write this down as a small bug in my app (not necessarily Alpha's for anyone reading this - may well be something I have/not done).

                          Thanks anyway.
