Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Need help with email

    I have the following script that sends an email message from a grid and cannot get it working properly.

    If I use the same email parameters in an email profile on the desktop side, it works fine.

    When I attempt to run this, it immediately pops up with the email successfully sent dialog box but the email is not being sent.

    Any idea what I am overlooking?

    Thanks

    Code:
    FUNCTION email_sum2TS as c (e as p)
    '
    'example code:
    'Return a Javascript command
    'email_sum2TS = "alert('You submitted a value of: ');"
    'debug(1)
    DIM pm as P
    DIM ps as P
    'DIM ps.timeout as n
    'ps.timeout = 60000
    IF (email_smtp_open(ps, "smtp.xxxxxxxx.com", 25, "username", "password")) THEN
                pm.to = "[email protected]"
                pm.bcc = "[email protected]"

    Re: Need help with email

    Hi Mark,

    It looks to me that you are not collecting the email profile first. This is what I have in my a5w page.
    t = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\email_config")
    t.fetch_first()
    vc_from = alltrim(t.email_from)
    vc_site = alltrim(t.site_name)
    vc_smtp = alltrim(t.smtp)
    vn_port = t.port
    vc_user = alltrim(t.user)
    vc_pw = alltrim(t.pw)
    t.close()
    Followed by:
    if (email_smtp_open(ps,vc_smtp,vn_port,vc_user,vc_pw))
    pm.to = vc_to
    pm.cc = vc_cc
    pm.bcc = vc_bcc
    pm.from_alias = vc_site
    pm.message = vc_message
    pm.from = vc_from
    pm.subject = vc_subject
    vl_result = email_smtp_send(pm, ps)
    End if
    Hope that helps.

      I'm not familiar with email_smtp_open, but I do see that ps has no value at any point in the script...

        Are you sure the port is correct?

          Yeah, the port is correct. My email host also gave me three other ports to try and all of them work on the desktop side but not from a grid.

          I also just discovered that when I run this from live preview mode, the email is successfully sent. However, when I publish it and run it, it says it successfully sent the email but it does not send it.

          Any idea what could cause this?

          Thanks

            just to ask because I don't know your web-side experience--have you set up the email profile on the application server itself?

              Yes, I have setup the email profile on the application server. The test function from the email setup dialog completes successfully on the app server as well.

              Although it is my understanding that using email_smtp_open and send bypasses the email profile.

              After further experimenting I have discovered that this runs fine in Live Preview mode but when I publish it to either the Local Webroot or to my Remote Server, the email does not get sent, even though it reports it as being successfully sent.
