Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How to get a grid row value that was cancelled or recalculate custom controls?

    I need to know a value that was cancelled, or undone, in a Grid row.
    Getting the value that A5 restored is obtained in the "afterRowCancelEdits" event by inserting the following Javascript:

    var originalVal = {grid.Object}.getValue('G', 'MY_FIELD_ID' ,e.rowNumber);

    But how can I get what the value was before A5 did the undo / cancel in this event? Or, is there another client-side event that can be used to get the two values: 1) value before Undo, and 2) value after Undo?

    The event canRowCancelEvents will give you what you're looking for.

      "canRowCancelEdits" is only fired when an individual row is being undone. I only let the user have the "Cancel" button to undo the whole grid, so "canRowCancelEdits" won't work for me here.

      If it did work in this case then what would I use to get the original value that is going to get restored? I kind of need both values at the same time to efficiently redraw some Custom Controls.

        So you need to know the value, before Cancel, of every field, of every displayed row, that was changed and is about to be changed back to the original value?

          Re: How to get a grid row value that was cancelled or recalculate custom controls?

          David,

          Yes, but I only need to know the before and after cancel/undo values of one database field per row. I'm probably doing something uncommon ; I only found one other person with similar question back in 2010 on this newsgroup. At the time the solution was to track the before/after values with their own code instead of finding something already in Alpha.

          So, that's what I will do here -- add another hidden field to the grid that I can use to track the value most recently placed into the field. When the "afterRowCancelEdits" JS fires I can use the tracking field to catch what it was prior to Alpha reverting the actual database field to its original value. The additional hidden field will be a Custom type control so I can add custom attributes to it that won't get reset when alpha tries to restore it to its original values.

          For anyone interested, the reason I wanted to know the before and after values during the Cancel or Undo event is because I am using up to fourteen Custom Controls in a row of a grid that mimic one group of radio-style buttons. When Alpha restores the underlying database field value I need to redraw the two radio buttons that are affected by the change in value. I could redraw all of the radio controls in the row, but it should only be necessary to redraw the two buttons involved in the change: 1) the button that goes with the "before undo" value, and 2) the button that goes with the "restored" value. I didn't have a "container" field for these radio buttons as they actually appear in their own columns in the grid. The extra hidden control I'm adding will be like a pseudo container control that I can place a couple of properties into that apply to all the radio controls in the group. This is probably better design anyway, having an extra control that acts like a parent control for the custom radio buttons.

            This might be another option. In the Client-side Event, afterGridCancelEdits

            Code:
            var rowCnt = {grid.object}._rowsInGrid;

            for (i=1; i<rowCnt+1; i++)
              {
              var origVal = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','ORDNAME',i)
              alert(origVal);
              }
            And, in the canGridCancelEdits event

            Code:
            var rowCnt = {grid.object}._rowsInGrid;

            for (i=1; i<rowCnt+1; i++)
              {
              var newVal = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','ORDNAME',i)
              alert(newVal);
              }
            I'm guessing you don't really care if something has changed in those fields or not. You're going to process the values in those fields in order to modify your radio buttons anyway. Maybe the radio buttons will change... maybe not... doesn't really matter and long as they end up right.

              Yes David I might have to use code like that, but use a global window variable for storing the values at the time the "canGridCancelEdits" event fires. And then compare those values to what I get in the afterGridCancelEdits.

              My idea of using a Hidden Custom Control has hit a roadblock because A5 ignores my code to render the custom control if the field has been marked as "Hide Column"
              It just spits out its own code. I suppose it doesn't trust me to render the control with the appropriate html to keep it hidden.
