Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Simple grid displaying blank page, but HTML source is there...attached is video

    Ok, I'm stuck.

Just trying to create a simple single record grid.

In doing only a few clicks, and running it (no matter which preview I choose) I get nothing, a blank page.

A video displaying issue is located here: http://www.screencast.com/t/YDUc8yl3QIj ( it is kinda choppy but I'm not sure why ).

The first part shows that doing a regular, read only grid works fine, demonstrating there are records (2) in the table.

When I create a single record grid, I get a blank preview.

Tested in different browsers (doing live preview), and on a separate computer.

    Any ideas???

Chris, no idea from the video what you are trying to do, but if you want to "create a simple single record grid" and if that grid is an entry form then set it to form, set the fields editable, add the fields you want, set the add record only chech box in settings, then you will get a blank data entry form in the grid, but mate don't go there - in V11 use the dialog for this purpose as the grid really does not deliver a flexible enough environment for saving and editing form data. Pete.

Chris - I have had this exact issue numerous times lately; blank Live and Working Previews. Using the latest PRODUCTION build. No idea why, but just so you know you are not alone

Pete - for a very basic single record "form", what would be the "flexible enough environment" benefits of going with a Dialog2 instead? I'm a relative A5 noob so this is of great interest to me as I have been "holding off" Dialogs for a while now
      Cheers!

        hello chris

i don't have version 11 but as far as i know by using version 10.5 the single form is not done the way you are doing it.
(also difficult to see with your video) this is what i know how it is done.
when designing single form sql in the grid part you select only one field, does not matter which one that will be hidden when the grid is rendered. (i always select the id field)
in the detail part you select all the fields from the list, then go ahead group them as you like then you will see the record.
if you want to use that technique then add a new record then in the system javascript add {grid.object}.detailvieNewRecord() it will put you in new record entry.
i do hope i interpreted what you are trying to do.

ps. if you click to see the help file while you build the single form (sql) the help window pops up and displays what i am talking about.

Ok, that makes sense Gandhi. I typically use dialog forms, but I was just trying to see which would be easier to create a fast, simple display... I decided on the dialog in the end, but couldn't understand why the grid wasn't working. That makes sense now. Thank you!
