Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    bcEle.style is undefined

    I have an Onclick event on an image that's failing.

    Currently using pre-release 2723/3941.

    Firebug says bcEle.style is undefined when I click on the image.

    To simplify, I've brought my callback down to barebones:

    Code:
    A5.msgBox.show('Title','txt','o',function(){});
    Firebug's console shows this being returned in the response and I can also run it Firebug's interactive javascript window.

    If I change this from the A5.msgBox() to a simple javascript alert() it works fine.

    Any ideas what I'm missing here?

    BTW, the image is contained in a hand-coded .A5W page, in an iFrame, in a Dialog2. I do have this in the Head of the A5W page:

    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="[URL="http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphaforum/view-source:http://204.8.83.253/javascript/a5-27233941.js"]javascript/a5-27233941.js[/URL]"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="[URL="http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphaforum/view-source:http://204.8.83.253/javascript/a5_url.js"]javascript/a5_url.js[/URL]"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="[URL="http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphaforum/view-source:http://204.8.83.253/javascript/A5jQueryWithUI.js"]javascript/A5jQueryWithUI.js[/URL]"></script>

    Anyone? I've simplified this as much as I can imagine and still get the error. Even tried this:

    Code:
    <img id="DPBOX.V.R1.IMAGE_1" class="" src="Imgs/info.png" style="width:20px;height:20px;cursor:pointer;" title="" onclick="A5.msgBox.show('Title','txt','o',function(){});">

      Gonna bump this again.

      Why can I do this:

      <img id="DPBOX.V.R1.IMAGE_1" onclick="alert('test');" class="" src="Imgs/info.png" style="width:20px;height:20px;cursor:pointer;" title="" >

      But this gives me the error:

      <img id="DPBOX.V.R1.IMAGE_1" onclick="A5.msgBox.show('Title','txt','o',function(){});" class="" src="Imgs/info.png" style="width:20px;height:20px;cursor:pointer;" title="" >

          I tried several different options and get the same error as you do Steve, using yesterday's release candidate 2751_3954.

            Thanks Jim and Frank. I'm not actually putting that into my OnClick -- I really have an AJAX callback, but it's emitting the same thing with a whole bunch more content. I basically need to make an AJAX callback that returns a nice A5.msgBox() and can't find a way around this little issue.

            I do hope this gets addressed -- I have quite a bit invested in this (along with way too many hours trying to figure out if it's me or Alpha).

              Steve,

              I just tested this with a button in a grid that does an ajax callback. The return statement is "A5.msgBox.show('MyTitle','Text','o');" and that works for me.
              You say your Ajax callback is emitting a whole bunch more content? Try & simplify the return statement to isolate the issue, looks like it has to do something with that. Alternatively you could write a javascript function e.g. MyMsgBx() in which you just call "A5.msgBox.show('MyTitle','Text','o');" which may simplify your return statement. Makes sense ?

              Cheers
              Frank

                Re: bcEle.style is undefined

                A long shot.
                I had also an issue lately (in stable official release) where the result of an ajax callback couldn't be the same as the javascript in an onclick event.
                I needed it for refreshing contents of tabs in a dialog

                I needed as javascript:
                {dialog.object}._functions.runAction_e778aced_e953_449d_87b1_f3d631ab4bf7(); return false;

                no way this worked using directly as result of javascript in ajaxcallback

                my work around was:

                put the code in an onclick event of a button, en set the button style to display:none

                and return as javascript code from the ajaxcallback which clicks that button:
                $('{dialog.ComponentName}.V.R1.BUTTON_id').click();

                maybe similar work around can work also in pure a5w pages? just an idea.

                  Re: bcEle.style is undefined

                  Frank - that's what I've done. I have simplified my callback to return bare minimum to be sure that there's nothing in my content causing a problem.

                  Ger - you're right, I'm going to have to find a work-around, e.g. a callback that calls something else though I don't think I should have to do this.

                  If my callback can (and does) properly return an alert() then it should also be able to return an A5.msgBox() without taking a side-street.

                    This works OK for me using build 2747 3952
                    Code:
                    xbasic functions:

                    function test123 as c (e as p)
                    test123="A5.msgBox.show('Title','txt','o');"
                    end function

                    Button onClick:
                    {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G','{Grid.RowNumber}:all','test123','','');
                    returns

                      Re: bcEle.style is undefined

                      Here's the portion of the <img> code:

                      Code:
                      onclick="A5.ajax.callback('Callbacks.a5w','__action=LabAnalysis_Help&dp_id=20);"
                      And I've simplified the callback to only return this:

                      Code:
                      txt = "A5.msgBox.show('Title','txt','o');"
                      ?txt
                      Same error. I'm using 2723/3941 still and it may have been fixed in the last two weeks, but I can't upgrade this until the end of next week; right now I've got 100 people on boats every day who need the app and I don't want to change builds until they're done.

                      I'll address this again the end of next week then.

                        Re: bcEle.style is undefined

                        Solved.

                        In my case, I'm hand-coding the page in question.

                        When you hand-code a page and need the A5 javascript library, you must also include this in the <head> section:

                        <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/a5-27593962.js"></script>

                        This version changes as new A5 releases come out, so I found the .js that goes with the latest release and the callback to produce an a5.msgbox() now works. The version shown above here is current (as of this posting) but any older version does not work for me.

                        If I'm right then the next question is how to maintain pages with the current version. For my solution I'll just be adding an .a5w page that contains this, and including it where needed in my hand-coded pages.

                        I don't know if there's any other way that I can use that automatically detects and loads the latest/correct/current .js build but it would be nice to have and one less thing to maintain.

                          Re: bcEle.style is undefined

                          Alpha should have a standard js support file like:
                          <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/a5-latest.js"></script>

                          With an optional backward-compatibility specification param:
                          <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/a5-latest.js?v=27593962"></script>

                          But to my knowledge, they don't...

                            The Alpha folks may have to chime in, but I believe all you need to do is use
                            Code:
                            <script type="text/javascript" src="javascript/a5.js"></script>
                            and that will load the current versions of all the A5 .js files in the JavaScript folder of the web project.
