Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    email to {session.var}

    im using action script to send an email from a grid, using a button in the DV.

    i am able to use session variables for; from alias, subject, and body

    but if i try to use a session.var for the 'Send To;' the email will not send.

    is this correct or possible a bug?

    Re: email to {session.var}

    Works here. Just to test, I put session.sendTo = "[email protected]" into the Grid Server-side onGridInitialize event.

    Then, in the Action, the Send To section is set as {session.sendTo}

      that works for me also, but the way i am trying to do it still doesnt work.

      i have checked that a value exists in session.clemail by publishing to the web page.

      i even tried this on grid initialize

      dim session.sendto as c
      session.sendto = session.clemail

      didnt work either.

      never mind, i have decided to send the email automatically rather than by a button, so have put this in afterupdate event.

      thanks for helping me again David.

        Re: email to {session.var}

        Unless I'm missing something from your first post, I thought I was doing exactly what you're trying to do. I have a button on the Detail View of a Grid. That button has Action Javascript to email using session variables. You'd have to post a screen shot of your email dialog, with your session variables in place, to see what else is going on.

          your not missing anything, i was trying to email by clicking a button, which is where i was having a problem trying to get my session.var in to the SendTo field.

          however it is better for the users if they dont need to click the button to send the email so i put it to send automatically if criteria is met and i was able to get my session.var to work this way also.

          however i will need to use the button in the near future for other stuff so will need to come back to this.

            Yeah, I thought your afterUpdate solution was better... the less users have to do... :)

              Hi Guys,

              I was looking how to specify a session variable in the CC of an email and came across this thread. Did you ever figure it out Richard?
              Can you use a session placeholder directly in the email TO or CC fields?

              Using {session.current_user_email} in the CC field doesn't seem to work.

                  Hi Scott,

                  This was a long time ago but yes, it is working for me, although I don't think I was ever able to get the session variable directly into the TO or CC field.

                  Looking at it again, I have a hidden field to hold the user email address, lets call it useremail.
                  In the default value property of the field I set it to session.current_user_email (I set the session variable when the user logged in).
                  So now the useremail field contains the session variable.
                  In the TO or CC email field I then use the placeholder {useremail}.

                  Hope that makes sense.

                    Thanks, Stephen. I appreciate the quick response. It does make sense... gong to give it a shot.

                      Frustrating... still not working on my end. Did you use any special syntax for the placeholder control?

                        Hi Scott,
                        Is session.clemail receiving a value? If so, why not use that as your SendTo?
