Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    session variable

    Hi

    I am new to Alpha 5 and have build a simple web app. I want to filter the main data grid to the user log in ID on the scurity log in.

    I have found some Java script to add but it is not working. I am using an Alpha Dao source for the grid. The scripts I have found to do this do not look like script on the A5W page I am working with. How do I filter the data grid to the log in ID

    Than you

    Re: session variable

    Mark,

    Here is how I accomplish it. I create an a5w page, for this example lets say I call it codepage.a5w

    I add the script below to codepage.a5w which sets the username as a session variable and redirects the user to the page I want them to start in, which in my example is TabbedUI_Donors_TabUI.a5w. I then go into the web security options and set the redirect page to my codepage.a5w. When the user logs in, they hit codepage.a5w first and it sets the session variable we defined in the script below.

    session.__protected__userid

    Then you will want to go into the grid(the component) and create the filter. Go to "Query(AlphaDAO)" and click connect. Once the page renders click on Define Arguments. Insert new argument. Choose the character data type. Name it whatever you like. Click Ok. Make sure "Get Argument value from" is set to variable. Then click to open the variable properties below. Click add new variable and make sure it is a session variable type. Enter this into variable name

    session.__protected__userid

    Click ok to save and close. Once you are back to the query/alphaDAO main window, click to open the filter builder. Now you will create the filter. Select the field that holds the username value in your table add = and then insert the argument you create above. The filter should look like this:

    Username = :argument

    This should get you going.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta name="generator" content="Alpha Five HTML Editor Version 10 Build 2787-3538">
    <!-- must use in order to make XP Themes render -->
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="MSThemeCompatible" content="Yes" />
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

    <title></title>
    </head>
    <body>

    <%a5

    dim pUser as p
    a5ws_logged_in_user_values(pUser,request,session)

    if eval_valid("pUser.userid") = .T. then
    session.__protected__userid =pUser.userid
    end if

    response.redirect ("TabbedUI_Donors_TabUI.a5w")

    %>
    </body></html>

      Re: session variable

      As of V11, the __protected__ naming convention is unnecessary, as no session variables can be directly created of modified by a query string, POST body or cookies.

        Lenny,

        I was not aware, thanks for that information.

        Mark,

        The example will work as I laid it out, Lenny is just pointing out that the method I was using is not necessary to protect user sessions/data.

          Hi Josh

          Thank you for your reply, I tried the code but the result was unexpected, the page skipped the log in request and redirected to the target page without letting the user log in.

          The automatically generated script is as follow.

          What I need is to pick up the externat ID I added on the users and groups and filter the salesmans grid on loading. I am new to Alpha 5 and not clear how you get this log in detail apply it to a variable for later use

            Mark,

            Do you have web security enabled? That would be the first place to start. Is this an app you are hosting on your development box for now or is it in production? I can provide you with the steps needed to enable it. Let me know.

            If you have web security enabled;
            It sounds like you may have a problem with your security settings. If you open up the Web Projects control panel and you click on A5W pages. Right click PgeSalesmanAppointments.a5w and make sure Page Security is set to requires login. It will then give you a list of groups and you would select which groups you want to have access to that page.

            As far as the values you are trying to collect, are you using dbf's or a SQL/mysql database?

              I could be wrong, but looks to me as the response.redirect line is executed whether or not the person is logged in.
              I think it should be above the end if line if the you only want to redirect them to that page if they are logged in.

                Web/page security will redirect back to the specified insufficient permissions page if the user does not have appropriate permission.

                  Hi

                  The solution was reletively simple in the end, it was a question of using the built in Session ID SPID and assigning it to a user defined variable and applying it to the grid filter. SalesPersonID=:UserID

                  Thank you
