Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Send Email sends HTML code instead of the actual text

    Hello.

    I searched this forum for the past 3 days with no luck in finding a solution for my problem.

    I want to send emails to clients and for that I have a dbf with these fields : E_mail, Title, Body.

    I've created a grid with a button that, when pushed, sends the e-mail.

    The problem is that when the text in the BODY field of the grid in NOT formatted, the message arrives as it should. When I format it (Bold, different sizes and fonts) the mail has the HTML code instead of the formatted text.
    Body of email - Formatted.pngSent email.png

    If I copy the body of the message that was received, in the SOURCE tab in the HTML Editor (in the Message Body (Html) section of the Send Email Options) and change the tab to the WYSIWYG tab, I find the formatted text.
    Source HTML.pngWYSIWYG HTML.png

    So if anyone can help me with ways of sending FORMATTED TEXT by email I will be very grateful.

    Thanks.

    Mike.

    You're sending it as plain text and not as HTML, that's why you see the tags.

      But what's the solution ?

      I want to send the text formatted ... I tried every possibility I could think of.

      Still the same code is being sent.

      Thanks for replying so fast.

      Mike.

          I'm sending the dbf, the grid and the web page.

          Hope for a good result.

            No sweat about this ... I got around it.
            I made a button with a Server-Side Xbasic code and that's it:

            function serverside_ca0cc85b6e7446fe9df095a530ae2c5c as c (e as p)
            serverside_ca0cc85b6e7446fe9df095a530ae2c5c = "//Replace this with the javascript to be returned by the function."

            dim pm as p
            pm.bcc = e._currentRowDataNew.e_mail
            body = e._currentRowDataNew.e_mail_body
            pm.subject = e._currentRowDataNew.e_mail_subject
            pm.html_message =body
            email_send2(pm)

            end function

            with e_mail, e_mail_body, e_mail_subject being the DBF's fields.

            It works this way, the message gets sent ok, even if it's formatted.

            Mike.

              Fodor, I know this is a very old post, but experiencing a similar problem. Would you mind elaborating on your xbasic solution?

              In short, I have a field that is storing text with HTML mark up. I am using this field as the body of the email and need the email to display as rich text (aka without the mark up).

              Thanks!

                Re: Send Email sends HTML code instead of the actual text

                Scott, this is the only elaboration necessary:

                Rather than:

                pm.message = your html body here
                use
                pm.html_message = your html body here

                However it is better to send it this way:

                pm.message = your plain text email body here ' in case the email client disallows HTML markup (rare)
                pm.html_message = your html body here

                  html_msg.pngSteve, thanks... I'm using action javascript for this and placing the field in "Message Body (HTML)". Should I use a xbasic function for this instead?

                    Re: Send Email sends HTML code instead of the actual text

                    no you don't have to. whatever you have in your field will be sent as html text to the recipient.
                    what is in your {Email_Body}.
                    the actual content.

                    edit: I see that you have html editor checked and the content is html encoded. it is possible with the content as attachment if you use printHTML() function. I do not know how to send it in email directly.
                    sorry.

                      Thanks, Gandhi... This is what I'm doing. {Email_Body} contains the HTML markup, but the markup is appearing in the email being sent.

                      I'm not sure what you're referring to... its possible you're confusing me with what Fodor posted.

                        Re: Send Email sends HTML code instead of the actual text

                        I can confirm that using the UX Action "Send Email" does NOT properly render HTML markup when sent as the Message Body (HTML).

                        It is a bug - someone turn it in.

                        I don't use this to send email, I use the more familiar and flexible methods, email_send2().
