Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

2 questions related to the contents in the browser tab (IE, Chrome, etc)

    1) When I use a dialog component, the text in the browser tab displays "Dialog" even though I have set the title to be what I want in the A5W component. I've built a couple of these from scratch and haven't gotten anywhere with it. Looked through the videos and the Wiki too and didn't spot any info on how to set the title tag so the browse tab has a meaningful description

    2) also, where do you set the image icon for the web browsers tab to use your own image instead of the Alpha default ? I recall in v10 there was a spot in the WAS settings but now I'm not seeing it

I've spent hours digging around trying to figure out where to define these two things - any pointers are much appreciated, thanks, Dave

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

Bump - have searched high and low and cannot find where the setting is that controls the browser icon - any direction much appreciated

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

      Dave, check "Favicon".

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

Hi Peter.... assuming you mean from the WAS, been there done that. When I uncheck Alpha Default Favicon in the WAS "Advanaced" control panel, the Alpha logo goes away on the browsers address bar But Not the browsers tab. I have my own png logo's I want to use and cannot find where in Alpha to define them to the WAS or the project.

Where should I be looking ?

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

please ignore my last message/question..... I didn't have my custom .ico file in the webroot

for whatever reason I thought this could be defined in the WAS - all this heat must be melting the old brain cells !

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

For whatever reason, I can NEVER get the Faviocn.ico to show. Go figure.

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

For question one: Add this code to your dialog's onItializeComplete event.

              document.title = "Your Title";

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

Peter, I fooled around with this some more this morning and got it working.

Initially, I was placing my Favicon.ico file in the webroot for my app which resulted in the browsers displaying their own defaults (ms globe, ms butterfly, chrome world, etc.). I then put the favicon.ico in my project folder and republished which didn't work.... but after checking the folder project contents from IIS manager I could see their was an Alpha security forbidden error. So I added "always allowed" to the Favicon.ico file from Alpha security and cha-ching, it works!

One other note, all browsers treat the favicon standard as "aggressive" so you have to clear your browsers cache to see the updates

Re: Contents in the Browser tab and dialogs

Thanks Dave. I knew about the caching issue. I'll double check the security setting, although I thought I had addressed that.
