Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Capture data from HTML project that is not A5

    Hello,
I'm not 100% certain on how to word this very odd question, but here goes....

The basis of my company is that I teach classes... most classes require a pre-test.
The Pre-Test that i have it actually a 'canned test' --meaning it is issued by another organization, but hosted on my website.

I want to be able to capture data at the end of the pre-test. Capture their session id (probably not that hard) and then capture the data/time/ip address that they took the test.. i the end of the test i would like to capture their pretest score....

From what i can tell the pretest exam format is in adobe flash (presents the question/diagram) the score reports appears to be adobe flash also...

What ideas do you have that i can capture these few items of data at the end of the test into my A5 Project...?
(this may require a post on an Adobe forum, but wanted to see what the A5 community came up with first, as i do need to obtain the signed in session id).

note: the pretest exam runs within a Tabbed UI

Any ideas/direction will be greatly appreciated...
    thanks

Re: Capture data from HTML project that is not A5

Create an a5w page and put this code in there:

    <%a5 a5w_info()%>

That will give you the name of all the system variables for anything you want.

As for flash, don't know. One thing though. I assume that the flash site has it's own session id (diff. from Alpha's) as you are just looking through a tabbed_ui iframe to view another web site?

one way that i can think of for both apps to comunnicate is if the flash app could redirect you after finishing the test to a dummy page that contained that info in the url like: test.com/test_complete.a5w?testid=123&score=94&studen=John then you can get the values from those page variables but your test provider would have to make this modifications .

Another option would be to ask your provider if there is some kind of api where you could connect and get this daa

Thanks for you pointers.. very much appreciated.

Actually the test is installed on my server. It was a CD-ROM that was provided to me for deployment. I'm told that i have the ability to make changes to the files.
Looks like Mauricio's idea may actually work.. i now need to clue-up on flash and how to redirect at the test page.

I guess a question would be: would the session.__protected__ variable be available to obtain from within flash and concatenate to the string??? or do i need to try another method...?

ie. test.com/test_complete.a5w?testid=123&score=94&studen=John?SessionID=Session.Protected__Ulink__ (i'm sure it wouldn't be worded like this).

Session protected variables can not be set in the url (thats actually a security feature not a limitation). You can only set them with xbasic. So you would need an intermediate page that would grab the value from a normal page variable an set the session protected variable to that.
          Cheers

Re: Capture data from HTML project that is not A5

Is the Adobe form saving the results of the test somewhere, to a table perhaps? If so, can't you grab the details from that table? Also, not sure if by "ulink" you mean the Alpha Five secuirty ID for the logged in users, but if you do, that variable is not the same as their session ID. A session ID is generated by the browser, the Ulink is a value stored in your own table associated with the logged in user. If that is what you mean.

The example URL you provided does NOT assign a value to session variable. The way you wrote you would be attempting to assign a session variable to a normal local "page" variable, named "sessionid" in your case. But this does not work either. Basically in V11 on, "session." in a URL is not treated as a variable at all, so you would be assiging the literal string "Session.Protected__Ulink__" to a page variable named "sessionid".
