Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Link to open other information in grid

    How do you choose a field in a grid to be a link and when the user clicks on that link it opens the other fields in the grid on a seperate a5w page?

    Re: Link to open other information in grid

    i hope this is what you are looking for, maybe someone will have a better solution. is a detail view no good for you?

    i added an image to my grid - and used the onclick event to call an ajax callback which sets the id field as a session variable and then opens a web page.

    my page is a pop up as i need to remain on the grid and see information from related tables (this grids gets data from lots of related tables so the detail view was unsuitable for this purpose) but im sure you can navigate to another page.

    thanks to steve for help with this.
    Code:
    Function SetProdVar as c (e as p)
       dim session.SetProdVar as C = e._currentRowDataNew.PRODID
       SetProdVar = "window.open('track_usersec.a5w','title=Provider Contact','resizable=no,width=455,height=455,status=no, toolbar=No,location=No,directories=No,menubar=No,scrollbars=No,copyhistory=No,top=50, left=400');"
    end function

      Re: Link to open other information in grid

      Steven -

      Here is another way using the onClick event for the chosen field:

      - select the field to use
      - click the "..." for the onClick Javascript event
      - Add New Action
      - select Inline-Javascript
      - enter this code, substituting your own a5w page for 'example':

      var open_link = window.open('','_blank');
      open_link.location="example.a5w";

      - Save

      Clicking on the chosen field will now open the selected a5w page in a new window/tab.

      That said, IMHO, this is a poor UI (user interface) design :) Typically, when a user clicks in a field, they expect to enter data.

      As Richard noted ... could you not use a Detail View instead? Or a Tab Control/Tab Pane would be an alternative too.

      Cheers!

        Re: Link to open other information in grid

        Thanks, I will try these. Really what I want is to list items on a5w page in which has the item's description, then if the user is interested in it they can click on the link (item description) to see full details. I know I am still weak on using detail view so not sure if that is the best route.

          For example, like the message boards here, you see the title and if you are interested you click it which takes you to detail information.

            Detail View would be a really good place start

            grid_detail_view.JPG

            This is a very simple example. Clicking the Name link goes to that record in the Detail View. I have this set up to always be visible, but you can set that to open on demand (clicking a linked field, clicking the grid row, double-clicking the grid row.)
            Cheers!
