Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Email Function - NEED HELP!

I really need to try to get the email function working. I have an action script that when it runs I want it to email to the address in a database field(owner_email). It will not email when I put {owner_email} in the send to section. If I put a valid email address in, it emails fine.

    Hi Steven,

Feel free to show the work you have. You can always put generic values in for sensitive items (username, password, etc..).

Re: Email Function - NEED HELP!

There are several ways to have the system send an email.
You are using one of the easier methods, but you give up some control.
I'm checking now to see if there's a way I can duplicate the problem.

I did some initial testing, and the configuration I have (similar to yours)
          seems to work well.

Have you checked your smtp server logs to see why the message is being rejected,
or even more important, if the message is even reaching the server?

Thanks I will check tomorrow and try it again. Did you do anything special on your SQL
            Server or the grid?

              I used a dialog2. Didn't do anything special.
I can try with a grid if you think it might affect things.

Re: Email Function - NEED HELP!

I have one in a dialog and one in a grid component. Both are in the server side events in afterDialogValidate. Both does the same thing. I have a feeling it doesnt know which row in the database to filter to then get the owner_email value.

That could be the solution. I know there is a place holder for rowNumber.

Sorry, where do you set it to filter the row, in the action script itself? Can you write a SQL statement to do this?

Re: Email Function - NEED HELP!

For my dialog, I didn't have to filter it. There was only one email address for it to use.
Let me check on the code for grids.

umm...now it's my turn to ask.

How did you get the functionality for the grid ?

Not sure what you are asking. I know I made a SQL connection for the grid but not sure where I would make this filter for the email action. Unless I make another action script before the email that can make a call and filter for the email address. Didnt know if you had done this before, that is why I asked where you did this.

Oh, in the grid go to server side events. Then up top click action scripting and add email action.
