Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Calculated Bound Feilds in a Dialog Do Not Update Table

    Hi all,

    I have not been on the list for a long while. Working on other projects.

    Having difficulties with a simple dialog component - Wondering if anyone knows what I am missing here???

    I have a dialog form that has a repeating row. I have fields that are calculated and relate to the master table with summery information culled from the repeating row bound to a child table.

    1. A new entry saves all of the data to both the master and child tables.

    2. If I open this dialog up to edit data, the calculated fields all calculate correctly. However, when I click on the Update Button on my Dialog form, It does not save any information that is inside of the calculated fields.

    I remember having this problem when I was participating when v11 first came out and for the life of me I cannot find what what I did or a forum post on how to fix this.

    Much thanks in advance.

    Re: Calculated Bound Feilds in a Dialog Do Not Update Table

    Hi Michael,

    I use a button on the dialog that calls a javascript function, the js then goes something like

    get value of a control used in the calculation into a variable, set the same control value to zero, refresh the dialog, set the control to the value of the variable, refresh the dialog

    Here is my code, it also sets the rate value in the calling grids row

    Code:
    function set_rate_in_parent (){
    	var prate = {dialog.Object}.getValue('PROFIT');
    	var nrate = {dialog.Object}.getValue('RATE');
    	{dialog.Object}.setValue('PROFIT',0);
    	{dialog.Object}.refreshClientSideComputations();
    	{dialog.Object}.setValue('PROFIT',prate);
    	{dialog.Object}.refreshClientSideComputations();
    	var po = {dialog.Object}.getParentObject();
    	var prownum = po._selectedRow;
    	po.setValue('G','RATE',prownum,nrate);
    po.refreshRow(prownum);
    po.submitGridPartRow(prownum);

    }

      Re: Calculated Bound Feilds in a Dialog Do Not Update Table

      Lance,

      Thanks for the reply.

      I found a simpler way to do this and it always helps to read the notes in the events.

      'The list of dirty submitted fields is in: e.dirtyColumns. This is a CRLF delimited string of dirty fields (i.e. fields
      'edited by the user). For example:
      'FIRSTNAME
      'QTY_A5INSTANCE3
      So here is what I did in the AfterDialogValidate section of the Server Side Events:

      e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf() + "supplierName" + crlf() + "bill_address" + crlf() + "ship_address" + crlf() + "subtotal" + crlf() + "TaxRate" + crlf() + "tax" + crlf() + "shipping" + crlf() + "grandTotal"

      Please note that each of the names listed above are the field names that I need to be considered dirty.

      Saved and published and it works like a charm.

          Re: Calculated Bound Feilds in a Dialog Do Not Update Table

          Does anyone know how to set dirty a control in a lists detail view? I have a field that has a (client-side) calculated field expression, that works nicely, however the field does not get updated on save (and synchronize). I noticed in the list builder that the updateable notes say that calculated expressions will not update. I do not know if that was means what I am talking about or something else. So this question isn't as much about a Dialog component as it is a list in a Dialog...

            Why not make the field in the detail view the calculated field, i.e. not in the list?

              Re: Calculated Bound Feilds in a Dialog Do Not Update Table

              That is what it sort of is...this is in the detail view of a list in a UX and it is using the client side calc. however the value doesn't update. I can't see where I am going wrong as other fields are all updating fine, just not the calc one and as I said if you read the notes in the list builder it mentions that. I just figured it might mean a calculation in the list definition/builder not the UX itself.

                The other thing to consider is why are you storing a calculation?

                  Re: Calculated Bound Feilds in a Dialog Do Not Update Table

                  Michael, where exactly do I place the code? Do I place inside the AfterDialogValidate, say, below my data submit action like so:

                  'To edit this action, place insertion point anywhere in the command, then click the 'Action Scripting' button'.
                  ExecuteServerSideAction("Save Data::Save_Submitted_Data_to_Table_s_")

                  e.dirtyColumns = e.dirtyColumns + crlf() + "GrandTotalPlanned" + crlf() + "GrandTotalActual"
