Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V11 webserver error

    I am using the path alias everywhere and it is failing on legacy dialogs (v9)?
    Is there an issue I missed on any notice about this not working?
    Here is the code

    a_tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\exportinventoryreciepts.dbf")
    append.t_db = "[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\shipping.DBF"

    error response is Errors in: event.AfterValidate code:
    Error loading exportinventoryreciepts: The system cannot find the file specified.
    exportinventoryreciepts.DBF

    I even tried to put the real path c:\A5wv11jobs\hancock\exportinventoryreciepts.dbf and that to did not work?
    I have a 24/7 app that is now stalled.......
    Does anyone see or had the same issue?

    Well I had an error in this "I even tried to put the real path c:\A5wv11jobs\hancock\exportinventoryreciepts.dbf and that to did not work?" I spelled something wrong but path alias is not working.

    Does anyone see or had the same issue?
    "[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\exportinventoryreciepts.dbf" working every where else but legacy dialogs?????

      Re: V11 webserver error

      Nick - it just so happens one of my customer, with a V9 app and a bunch of legacy dialogs, installed V11 app server today.

      Unfortunately, I don't have any of the customer or admin passwords to get in and test the system, but I did strongly advise them they need to go through every bit of it and let me know if there's a problem.

      This was around 3:00 this afternoon and I've heard nothing back from them. If I do, I'll sure let you know.

      I wonder what would happen if you'd open and save one of those dialogs in V11 and then publish it up again?

        Steve,

        "I wonder what would happen if you'd open and save one of those dialogs in V11 and then publish it up again?"

        I went through the whole project to avoid just this however that was back in April and Alpha code from January.....
        Anyway I fixed the issue by pathing directly to the files not using the alias which because it is an intranet I am ok with.
        But I did republish the dialogs after an open and save. It is just perplexing that a dialog and PathAlias dont work.
        This software has been running 24/7 since 2008. I decide to get them new hard ware and update so we could take
        advantage of the Maps / charts etc, in V11.....

          Re: V11 webserver error

          I can't get past this today, bringing a server along from V9 to V11.

          A simple attempt to open a table gets me this:

          500 Internal Server Error
          Script Error
          Error:Script:" /mycallbackpage.a5w" line:23
          tCust = table.open("[pathalias.adb_path]\customer.dbf", file_ro_shared)
          Error loading [pathalias.adb_path]\customer.dbf: The system cannot find the file specified.
          m:\customer.dbf
          Adding to the puzzle is that this code works well on one page, but not on others. The main problem I'm trying to resolve right now is code in a pure <%A5 ..... %> page -- nothing else. And yes, it worked well in version 9.

                Steve the path Alias maybe at issue it seems to work when it wants. I hard coded some of the tables etc which moved the error to something else.

                  Re: V11 webserver error

                  Yesterday, I tried to open a V9 app in V11 and found that the navigation system and all page to page links did not work. Some of the problems I traced down to setting session variables in the URL, which of course is not allowed anymore, but the navigation stumped me. I even opened the nav component in V11 and rebuilt it....didn't work. Republished everything...didn't work.

                  In the end, I recommended the client not upgrade to V11 unless he has me rebuild the app in V11. He decided to stay in V9.

                    Yeah, more problems than I anticipated because of pathing and other stuff that was allowed in V9 (I think I did this originally in V8 - did we have this stuff in V8 yet - not sure?). But it's a relatively small app -- I re-did a few things and it's better than new now.
