Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    I haven't used it, but check out

    BUS_DAYS_BETWEEN() returns the number of business days between two dates.

      Hi Gregg

      Thanks for the reply I have looked at BUS_DAYS_BETWEEN() xbasic function but I need something that can re calculate on all the records on na daily basis and am not sure if the BUS_DAYS_BETWEEN() xbasic function can do this on a web app with a mysql connection.
      I was sure someone on the forum will have do this or something similar

      Thanks
      Robert

        Re: business days between 2 dates

        The abovementioned function simply calculated the number of non-weekend days between 2 dates, then (optionally) subtracts the number of (non-weekend) holidays (as queried from a table in your database). It is something that you could code in xbasic yourself in a very short time, plus create a grid component to manage the holidays in a given year. Note that holidays vary both by year and by country (in case this is relevant to you).

        So, to summarize, create your own function that uses the BUS_DAYS_BETWEEN() xbasic function (without the dbf option), then do a SQL query to find the number of non-weekend holidays, and subtract the two.

          Hi Andy

          Thanks for the reply, I think I am going to go down the MySQL trigger / Proceedure route as my problem isn't calculating the days but having the system update the days on every record every day.

          thanks

            Re: business days between 2 dates

            I am wondering. Why are you saving business days between in your database? Why not just save a start/end date (or just a start date) and calculate the business days between when you need to see/use the data? Calculated field?

            For the record, I am using BUS_DAYS_BETWEEN() in a web app with a MySQL connection. I don't store the calculated value in my database, however. The specific use case, I have a start date and just calculate the business days since start date --- number of business days since a project was started. Works great!

              Hi Sarah

              The data is being used to build invoices and will also be imported into another system.

              Thanks for all the input on this, I now have fairly good plan on what I need to do.

              Thanks

                Re: business days between 2 dates

                I found this online and incorporated it not too long ago when I needed to do the same thing.

                Use the attached file with holidays of your specification.

                Then do something like the following. I have this in a BeforeInsert Trigger:
                Code:
                DELIMITER $$

                USE `database`$$

                DROP TRIGGER /*!50032 IF EXISTS */ `BeforeInsert`$$

                CREATE
                    TRIGGER `BeforeInsert` BEFORE INSERT ON `table`
                    FOR EACH ROW BEGIN
                	SET new.difference =
                		(SELECT COUNT(*)
                		FROM calendar_table
                		WHERE dt > new.Date
                		AND dt <= new.Date_Entered
                		AND DAYOFWEEK(dt) NOT IN(1,7)
                		AND isHoliday=0);
                    END;
                $$

                DELIMITER ;
                Attached Files
