Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    is this condition can be done using alpha five?

    Hi everyone,

    in desktop application this situation can be done easily, could this situation be done using alpha five for web-based, any example please?

    let's say i have some field on the detail view:

    Document ID : ...................
    Document Date : __/__/____
    Item ID : ...................
    Item Description : ......................................
    Price : ......................................

    in desktop application i am using lost focus event on item ID to get Item description and price, the system will find the price which has still active.

    I'm not sure I understand your question completely, but if you are asking if you can put those fields in a detail view to be filled in, the answer is yes, and very easily.

    You could also put them in a regular grid, or a dialog.

    The web components are very, very flexible.

      Re: is this condition can be done using alpha five?

      Hi Richard,

      fyi: i am using mysql for the database.
      in this matter i cannot use lookup on the detail view for field Item ID, because the price has the table for itself and has efective date.
      what i am trying to do now is to put javascript on change event for detail view field ITEM ID, and put this below code :

      var mydata=this.value;
      {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G','1','myxb','',mydata);

      i have difficulties on writing myxb function, how to do that?, how to pass Item ID value on the function?

      function myxb as c (e as p)
      dim cITEMID as c
      dim cITEMDESCRIPTION as c
      dim cPRICE as c

      ???? Question 1: how to put the value to cITEMID variable from Item ID field on the detail view ?

      ???? Question 2: how to fill Item Description field and Price field on the detail view from variable cITEMDESCRIPTION and variable cPRICE ?
      end function

      Thanks,
      Andi

        Oh okay. Unfortunately I'm not the one to help you then, as I do not use SQL. Everything I do is in .DBF tables.

        Maybe someone much wiser than me can assist you.

          Re: is this condition can be done using alpha five?

          my question is not regarding the sql syntax, but rather than in the ajaxcallback function:

          Question 1: how to move Item ID field value on the detail view to a variable let's say to cItemID ?
          Question 2: how to move value from variable (let's say cPrice) to Price field on the detail view?

            Gee Rich - we are going to have to do something about that mate!

              LOL, yeah I know Pete ......... one of these days I'll upgrade.

              But honestly I've been using DBF tables for over 20 years and they have worked well for me. Most of my tables are small, (the largest one being about 30,000 records), and my applications run fast, so I haven't really been motivated to take on a whole new learning experience.

                Question 1: how to move Item ID field value on the detail view to a variable let's say to cItemID ?

                var ItemID = this.value;
                {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G',1,'myxb','','mydata='+ItemID);

                Then in your function you would have:

                cItemID = e.mydata

                Question 2: how to move value from variable (let's say cPrice) to Price field on the detail view?

                In your callback's closing statement something like this:

                myxb = "{grid.Object}.setValue(part,name,[row - omit for Search and Detail View]," + js_escape(cPRICE ) + ");"
                End Function
