Convert DOB to Age in Grid?

Hi, I have done a search and can't find what I'm looking for.

I have a DOB in a time field mysql table. I would like to display this field as calculated, to show the current age in a grid.

OK, I have this which I found in a thread from Jim Coltz.

function getAge(dateString) {
    if(dateString != "" && dateString.length >7 ){
	    var today = new Date();
	    var birthDate = new Date(dateString);
	    var age = today.getFullYear() - birthDate.getFullYear();
	    var m = today.getMonth() - birthDate.getMonth();
	    if (m < 0 || (m === 0 && today.getDate() < birthDate.getDate())) {
	        age--;
	    }
	    return age;
	 }else{
	 	return "";
	 }   
}

This does display the age when I set the Client side Properties as Calculated field field expression getAge(DOB) .

The problem I have is, when clicking in a row to select detail, the Age value goes blank. How do I fix this please?

I am confused with you saying that it is a 'time' field ... how would that work? "My DoB was 04:15"

As a 'datetime', then that's easy :)

SELECT YearsBetweenDateTimes(dob,  now())  AS age 
FROM table_name

Works just fine in a Detail View as well :)

I dont want to do this as an ajax callback which I have seen in this forum.

if you don't want to do ajax call back there are serveral two options by javascript or a mysql function (event) / stored procedure see links below are

Yes it is datetime field, mysql just shows it as T.

Where do I use your SELECT YearsBetweenDateTimes(dob, now()) AS age
FROM table_name ?

Thanks for your reply.

I did an update to my thread and have got half a fix with the code from Jim.

The half problem is when clicking in a row to select detail, the Age value goes blank.
