Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    dialog load keys and page variable

    Hi there,

    Have a dialog bound to tables for which I am loading data using the "Get Primary Keys for Parent Table" server side on the on initialize event, that works great, but I would like to be able to position the current record to a page variable. Been reading all post I can find and experimenting with the {dialogobject}.setkey action but to no avail.

    Does anyone knows how to do that? I need for the customer to be able to move from one record to the next, but need then to start at a preset record which they picked on a previous grid on an A5W page.

    Re: dialog load keys, how to assign current record

    I have probably no given enough information.

    How do I position for the current record, here is what I have experimented with;

    Code:
    'e.control.id = Request.Variables.pageid
    'To edit this action, place insertion point anywhere in the command, then click the 'Action Scripting' button'.
    ExecuteServerSideAction("Get Primary Keys for Parent Table::loadkeys")

    dim nextid as n
    nextid = val(Request.Variables.pageid)
    e.javascript = "{dialog.Object}.setKey('product','nextid');"
    If I comment out the setkey then I get all records, but if I try to set the key of the current record I get a no records found!!!

    The pageid variable is working fine, when I tested it with the e.control.id commented now, the embedded grid inside the dialog (which is an active link used only to show a picture, since dialogs can not) actually loads the correct picture belonging to the pageid key, but then the load keys take over.

      No replies, guess have not expressed my question clearly, allow me to expand in other terms, maybe somebody has a better idea.

      I come from a Cobol background using SQL and when you needed to do a sequencial read on a table you created a cursor where you could define a condition for your select statement and then fetch from then on. That is what I am trying to accomplish here, anyone?

        Re: dialog load keys and page variable

        Got it to work, in case anybody else needs this, here it is.

        The get primary keys must be converted to xbasic, in my case the parent page contains a grid in an A5W page with links displaying picture images of products. I am using MySQL and modified the query to obtain row numbers, the <RowNumber> in the grid is not allowed as a page variable.

        SQL
        Code:
        SELECT @row := @row + 1 as row, id, product_class, category, picture
        FROM product, (SELECT @row := 0) r
        Below the modifications to the code converted to xbasic:
        Code:
               if rtc.recordsInQuery > 0 then
        		[B][I][COLOR="#FF0000"]dim curr_row as n = val(Request.Variables.row)[/COLOR][/I][/B]
        		javascriptSetPrimaryKeys = javascriptSetPrimaryKeys + "{dialog.object}.navigateRecord[B][I][COLOR="#FF0000"](" + curr_row + ")[/COLOR][/I][/B];"
        		javascriptSetPrimaryKeys = javascriptSetPrimaryKeys + <<%txt%

        		%txt%
        	else
        		javascriptSetPrimaryKeys = javascriptSetPrimaryKeys + "{Dialog.Object}.newRecord();"
        	end if
        The NavigateRecord uses the row number for positioning, so the parent page and the child must have the same exact record selection and order.

        Enjoy...

          Re: dialog load keys and page variable

          Hi All,
          I'm trying to accomplish the same (use navigation options within a dlg and have the same starting record in dlg window from the grid row when the dlg is initialized) I'm having trouble modifying my sql select statement to obtain row numbers using the example above. I'm using sql server 2012 and below is a copy of my current sql statement. Any advice on the syntax or any other possible solutions?
          Thanks
