Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Are you a subscriber or have you purchased the V11 Feature Packs - Dialog Component - Map Control? One of the two must be true for it to appear. If either is true then you must activate the feature pack under the tools menu, feature packs, activate... Either way if you do not have the license number and purchased it or need to purchase one, call Alpha.

      Juan,

I assumed that Andrew did have it as he was able to show the screen shot. My assumption could of course be wrong. The other thought was that an update has knocked out the activation.

Keith, from what I understood, the screen capture image is from the video... in any case he would need to find the license from his original email or call Alpha...

          Hi Juan and Keith.

          Thanks for your response.
I'm running a trial version and have not installed any Feature Pack. I believe that one must "chew the bone" until the issue is resolved (best way to learn), have found a "work-around" for now.

I'm still evaluating A5 and am very positive about the product, will buy it soon.

          Best Regards
          Andrew

If it serves you, been using Alpha now for a year and it is amazing, I highly recommend it, my learning curve has been a little steep but I had never done any web development. You could call me a COBOL dinosaur since as I did 30 years of mainframe development and had never seen JavaScript nor any other web development language. You can check my first web site @ www.pablosmasterjeweler.com it is still under development, so pardon my dust!, but it is all dynamic pages, not 1 bit of static content.

I am at the moment building the cart for that site. Everything you see in it has been built without any help in a period of 2 month except for the msgboard. The other info I can share is that the user community is great and on this message board you will always find someone willing to help. Hope you join us soon, by the way the subscription is the way to go...

              Hi Juan,

Your site looks great and I'm very impressed that you did this in only two months. As this was my first web project and I'm not a programmer, it did take me longer than that to build, www.churchjobfinder.co.uk . Maybe there are a couple of things on the site you might like and could use on yours.

Now we have got to the nub of the issue.

                  Re: What am i missing??

                  Hi Juan, Keith

I am amazed with the sites you guys have developed considering the little prior experience you have had. It really shows the capabilities of A5. I have been developing desk-top applications since 1987 and have only now broadened my scope to include web-apps. Something I've learnt through the years is that the (as Microsoft and the other corporates call them) "fringe" development platforms are driven mainly by people like yourselves who are excited and enthusiastic about the products they are using. Through all my years of VB, SQL and Access development I can't think of a single instance where I've met people who are enthusiastic about those products. Mainly all one hears are about the lack of commitment and the "don't care" attitude of the corporates to their own products. Everything is profit driven.

Great work guys and thank you for your input.

                  Best Regards
                  Andrew
