Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Check box issue in Grid component?

    In Grid component I have two fields.

    One check box field has 4 items.
    Second check box field has only one item.

    If I checked the second check box , unchecked all the items in first checkbox.

    How can I do this problem.
    Example:

    First field: Your Favorite fruits.
    Apple
    Banana
    Orange
    Mango

    Second field:None

    If I checked none,all fruits(Apple,Banana,Orange,Mango) of status is unchecked in First field.
    If I checked any fruit in first field,second field value should be unchecked.

    hello

    why do you need two fields,
    can you not have just one with five choices?
    such as
    apple, banana, orange, mango, none

        Re: Check box issue in Grid component?

        hello

        i am not sure the design of the database you have. but visually speaking,
        if you are going to have two fields to answer one question ( say in the grid left column will be favorite foods, the next will be blank or none) it does not not look good, at least for me.
        one column to say all about the food will be better to my liking. say apple, orange, banana, mango or none when only one choice needed and you should use radio buttons instead.

        if you are going to have more than one selected item just leave the none part and have the initial value set to "None" so when you select any or all the selections the none part will go away,
        and if the user have no preference they will simply skip the question because the answer is already there.
        correction: None does not apply to checkbox, I was wrong

        hope i make sense.

          hello

          this is just a follow up, i think this solution works.

          create a field favorite_food use radio button with two choices yes and no
          create a field favorite_food_list use checkbox with four choices apple, orange, banana, mango
          in the field properties of favorite_food_list show/hide properties use this formula favorite_food = "Yes"
          when you preview the list is hidden till the user selects the yes button.

          hope this works for you

            This is the easiest way that I can think of.

            Table with five fields all bit data type. eg apple - type bit, banana, orange, mango, none

            in the onChange event of the fruit fields put this.
            Code:
            if (this.checked)
            {
            {grid.Object}.setValue('G','NONE',false);
            }
            In the none field onChange
            Code:
            if (this.checked)
            {
            {grid.Object}.setValue('G','APPLE',false);
            {grid.Object}.setValue('G','BANANA',false);
            {grid.Object}.setValue('G','ORANGE',false);
            {grid.Object}.setValue('G','MANGO',false);
            }
            There are many other ways to do this as well but hopefully this will get you started.

              As Gandhi said above, but the first field should probably be either a single checkbox (either checked or not) or a radio (two choices).
              One other option is what Gandhi said at first - all choices including "none" in a single field, but trap the onclick event (or possibly other event?). When "none" selected, clear all others and when other choice is clicked then unselect "none". This takes a bit more javascript, though.

                  I have 77 options for single field with including none. I will try by taking array.

                  But we don't know the syntax or whether it is working or not. We have to do trail and error method

                      Re: Check box issue in Grid component?

                      Sorry I did not include the row number in the set value method.
                      This works for a tabular or form grid with MySQL data.
                      filed properties are a checkbox with Treat field as logical field selected.

                      In the none field onChange
                      Code:
                      if (this.checked)
                      {
                      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','APPLE',[COLOR="#FF0000"]{Grid.RowNumber}[/COLOR],false);
                      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','BANANA',{Grid.RowNumber},false);
                      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','ORANGE',{Grid.RowNumber},false);
                      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','MANGO',{Grid.RowNumber},false);
                      }
                      In the fruit fields onChange
                      Code:
                      if (this.checked)
                      {
                      {grid.Object}.setValue('G','NONE',{Grid.RowNumber},false);

                        Re: Check box issue in Grid component?

                        Note that there is no need for you to create 77 bit fields or an array.

                        Have a separate table which contains your fruits with a unique string ID.
                        e.g. Table = Fruits
                        FruitID - FruitName
                        F1 - Banana
                        F2 - Orange
                        F3 - Peach

                        Then in your PersonalData table, just have one character field (e.g. FruitIDList).

                        You will populate your checkbox choices from a simple query.

                        This field will be a comma-delimited list of FruitIDs - like "F1,F3,F9" - depending on your selection.

                        This is how checkboxes work in A5 - they generate a comma-delimited list of values.

                              that is correct, if the user selects none before selecting any choices or afterwards, it should return none. is that not supposed to be?
                              in my example when you select items, it does give you comma delimited array for that field for however many choices you may have, five or seventy-seven.
