Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

If you go into family members under family in the menu bar and add a new family member you will see the full effect of the dynamic menus. remember to refresh the page after you add the family member and please don't delete any for the first five family members since those are me and my kids and my cat

We use Task Manager to restart server after reboot. Even without being logged in. Change Retries to 99 - Every 1 minute. :)

I didn't know you could do that with Taskmanager.

Very neat Lee, nice and clean.

One observation, when registering, the answer to the security question is marked as required, but the question itself is not marked.

Attached image shows most of home page of a production system. Current development version has moved dashboard to home tab. Uses tabbed UI and dialog that includes charts, grid, and buttons that change color dynamically based on content of associated tables.

Nicely done, Terry. I like the button group at the bottom. Was it hard getting them to line up and behave nicely like that?

I do have PhotoShop CS6 here but more often than not I rely on my ancient but well worn copy of Paint Shop Pro, which I'd be happy to lend you a copy of.
But 99% of the time I can find what I want in google, and if any editing needs to be done its mostly cropping and resizing.
the A5 style GrBlue will give you nice buttons... throw in a 16x16 icon and have fun.
PS... look for "icon sets" there are tons of them out there for free. Also http://www.deviantart.com is a favorite hangout of mine where you can find the most modern and beautiful images all for free.
Free isn't always free. Make sure you have the rights to all images in your website.

9 times out of 10 nobody is going to make a stink, or even know your using their image. But there are aggressive rights owners out there keeping an eye open for their images.

For the free images, make sure you follow their rules. Many require a link back to their site. Some have "copyleft" agreements, which can include a rule that you are not able to modify, in any way, their image. Some free images are only free for non-commercial websites.

Always check this stuff out, and maybe even keep a copy of their rules on hand, just in case. You just want to make sure something doesn't come back to bite you in the booty.

When I said Free I meant exactly that. I thought "open domain" was understood in that context, but in your case, obviously not. Cheers.

                              Michael Vaughn:

I looked at your site and was surprised that in the job application page you are not using SSL. You are requesting social security number, date of birth, and other personal information - this all should be encrypted. I assume you are saving the data in encrypted form in your SQL tables. Identity theft is a big issue and you have to be very careful storing this kind of information on an internet connected computed.

Oversight on my part, thank you for pointing that out. Is SSL fairly easy to implement? Any tips?
