Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Difference btw two dates

    Hello ALL,

    I have two dates objects and i try to calculate the date interval so that I get no of days.
    I have been struggling with it for some time now.
    On loading the page, the calculated field is at 0.
    Once i change the date, it turns to "NaN".

    Attached is the picture.

    What am i doing wrong?

    I have " CheckedOutDate - CheckedInDate " on the calculated field.

    Thanks.

    Ran into the same problem and had to write an XBASIC function that was called from an AJAX CALLBACK.

    In my case, I had two days that were seperated by, as much as ten years. I needed the number of days in each 6 month period to calculate up to 21 different interest rates (required under MI state Law for judgments).

    It worked great and was a wonderful exercise for me to use alot of different Xbasic file functions, and other XBASIC functions. As a bonus, I go to do a nice AJAX CALLBACK.

      I recommend you do it clientside (possibly using the onchange field events) to trigger a js function call.
      You would define your js function in the definitions area.
      To see what js code you might put in the function, see http://youropensource.com/projects/7...-in-javascript
      Remember to use your A5 .getValue functions to grab the two date strings instead of getElementById as shown in the example.

        hello

        i am not sure if you are using sql backend, if you do then,
        usually the calculated field need not be stored in the table definition
        the field Number_Of_Nights can be calculated in the definition for the grid using
        DaysBetweenDates(Date1 as D, Date2 as D) function which is available in the expression builder.
        every time you change the dates and save the Number_Of_Nights will recalculate itself.
        thanks for reading

          Re: Difference btw two dates

          Since it looks like you're using a dialog and calendar objects you can do this. In the calculated field expression add:
          Code:
          days(yourStartCalendar'sControlName,YourEndCalendarsControlName)
          Then in the javascript functions area define a function:
          Code:
          function days(a,b){
          	if (a.length > 0 && b.length > 0){
          		var x = new Date(a);
          		var y = new Date(b);
          		var z = Math.floor((y.getTime() - x.getTime()) / (1000*60*60*24))
          		return z
          	}else{
          		return "Please select a start and end date!";
          	}
          }
          Note with the dialog's calendar controls you need to either specify default value, like "=date(()" so the function has defaults to work with our use a test like I did and prompt the user to select dates.

          Sample is attached.
