Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How do I run Xbasic code from a dialog button's "On Click" event

    How do you "activate" Xbasic code from the dialog button's "on click..." event?

    I'm using MySql tables and I have a "master" table that contains records that can be copied into a "working" table. For example a master list of service requirements.

    When a new piece of equipment is installed, I have a button that will "assign" the master table records to the working table...

    I have a grid embedded in a dialog that holds the working table records and I have a "button" on that page so the user can copy/insert the master records into the working table.

    Use Action Javascript to create an Ajax Callback, and use the information provided in that process to create a prototype XBasic function. Then you can call whatever XBasic you want to, using dialog control values and optionally returning Javascript.

      Most objects in the dialog or grid have Property for onClick. To fire Xbasic:
      • Select Ajax Callback from the Action Javascript list.
      • In the Ajax Callback dialog, enter a function name like "myFunction".
      • Click Create Prototype, copy the text to clipboard.
      • Click Open Xbasic Function Declaration, and paste in the clipboard.
      • Write your Xbasic and SQL script in the function area.

      When you click your object, it will fire the Xbasic. Wasn't sure if you needed help on the SQL/Xbasic code.

        Steve,

        I think that's the "clue bird" I was looking for.

        As far as the actual code, I think I found most of what I need in http://www.downloads.alphasoftware.c...SQLTables.html and also there was some code that I found in the forum as:

        "...INSERT INTO TableB SELECT TableA.* FROM TableA
        works if the columns in TableA and TableB are identical and in identical sequence

        INSERT INTO TableB (Col1, Col3, Col 2, ...) Select Col1, Col2, Col3, ... from TableB
        works if the columns in TableA and TableB are not identical or in identical sequence "

        If you have additional information or recommendations I would appreciate it...Alpha and SQL are still fairly new to me.

          Steve,
          Tried a post earlier, but guess it got "lost."
          Yes, I could use some help with the code. I am using information presented in http://www.downloads.alphasoftware.c...SQLTables.html and also some that I picked out from a forum thread:

          INSERT INTO TableB SELECT TableA.* FROM TableA
          works if the columns in TableA and TableB are identical and in identical sequence

          INSERT INTO TableB (Col1, Col3, Col 2, ...) Select Col1, Col2, Col3, ... from TableB
          works if the columns in TableA and TableB are not identical or in identical sequence

          I still have concept issues with the difference in javascript/browser and Xbasic/server. Do I just enclose it within the prototype and Alpha translates it for me?

            Steve,

            Below are the codes I've attempted. Until I get to the "INSERT INTO" code(s), everything appears to work fine and I get "true" flags and expected "resultset" grids.

            I have not been able to get any form of "INSERT INTO" to work...

            (I am using MySQL version 5.5.28.)

            dim cn as sql::Connection
            dim rs as sql::ResultSet
            dim sqlCommand as c

            flag = cn.Open("::Name::AFSql")
            ?flag
            = .T.

            sqlCommand = "select * from stdenginspections"
            flag= cn.execute(sqlCommand)
            rs = cn.ResultSet
            sql_ResultSet_preview(rs)

            sqlCommand = "SELECT * from mcrenginspections"

            flag = cn.execute(sqlCommand)
            ?flag

              Re: How do I run Xbasic code from a dialog button's "On Click" event

              The starting point is to get good debug information. You can add this just after your cn.execute(sqlCommand):

              save_to_file(cn.callresult.text,"c:\sqlerror.txt")

              That will kick out an error message to file.

              The best method is to open whatever you use to manage your SQL database and try to execute the query string. That will give you more elaborate error messages.

                  Steve,

                  I've got it working now...still need to clean up issues like creating duplicates, etc., but the basics are working.
                  The problem was that I named a column with the reserved word "Interval."
                  Once I changed the field names the function started working as needed.

                  Thanks for all your help
