Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Does anyone know why response.add_cookie() no longer works with Alpha v11 and how can I fix it ?

    Thanks.

      Hi Lance,

      I had a look at the page and changed the response.add_cookie to response.cookies.add but it does not work.

      Is there something else I should add or do to make the new version work.

      Regards,

      Ant.

        Re: response.add_cookie()

        Because these methods take an actual object and add it to the Response.Cookies collection, the Xbasic programmer must create the object and then add it.

        'first create a new cookie
        dim NewCookie as System::Web::HttpCookie = new System::Web::HttpCookie("Cookie1", "Cookie1's data")
        'now add/set the cookie
        Response.Cookies.Set(NewCookie)

        Ant - per the documentation, you have to create the cookie first

          . make this an "HTTP-Only" cookie
          NewCookie.HttpOnly = .t.
          'restrict the cookie to the "/MyApplication" path
          NewCookie.Path = "/MyApplication"
          'finally, add/set the cookie

            Here is how I handled cookie in a shopping cart product, includes timeout variable and "a5ver" toggle to work in both V10 and V11.

            ...
            dim cartid as c
            cartcookielife = sql_lookup(--omitted code--) '==life in minutes
            if cartcookielife = 0
            cartcookielife = 360 '==6 hours default
            end if

            if cartid = "" '
            cartid = remspecial(api_uuidcreate())
            '==CASE ADDED FOR A5V10 COMPATIBILITY
            a5ver = floor(val(version("v")))
            SELECT
            CASE a5ver = 10
            response.add_Cookie("cartid",cartid,cartcookielife*60)
            CASE a5ver = 11
            dim NewCookie as System::Web::HttpCookie = new System::Web::HttpCookie("cartid")
            NewCookie.value = cartid
            NewCookie.expires = now() + (cartcookielife*60)
            response.cookies.add(NewCookie)
            END SELECT

              Steve,

              I've changed the code from :-

              'create the new cookie
              dim NewCookie as System::Web::HttpCookie = new System::Web::HttpCookie("Cookie2")
              'set the value (data to be stored in the cookie

              'finally, add/set the cookie

                  Why am I hungry?

                  I hope you didnt leave my --omited code-- in place. Replace that line with :

                  cartcookielife = 360

                  What do you mean by "don't work". What did you test, there is nothing in your code to show value. And also, don't try this in Working Preview or similar, has to be published view.

                  Edit: My post crossed yours, I have not looked at your uploaded example yet.

                    Re: response.add_cookie()

                    I really think you just need to replace your:

                    Response.Add_Cookie("cart_id",cart_id,0)

                    with:

                    dim NewCookie as System::Web::HttpCookie = new System::Web::HttpCookie("cart_id")
                    NewCookie.value = cart_id
                    NewCookie.expires = now() + (12000)
                    response.cookies.add(NewCookie)

                    I would use the 12000 value rather than makeing the cookie a "session" cookie (what the 0 does in yours). Session means the cart is lost when they close their browser. When I visit carts, I like if my selections are sticky for half a day so I can browse and come back. 12000 is about 6 hrs.

                      Thanks for all your help Steve, but it still does not work.

                      I presume I'm correct in to adding code you gave me above the actual original code

                      ========================================================
                      First this version has the orignal code commented out :-

                      ================================================

                      response.add_cookie("cart_id",cart_id,0) is commented out and replaced with response.cookies.add(NewCookie) :-

                          Jeff,

                          I tried the suggestion but it did not work.

                            How do you know it didn't work, what are you using to test if the cookie was created?

                              Re: response.add_cookie()

                              After each suggestion to try, I change the code of the a5w page called shopcart_add.a5w and re-publish the page and hit the Add to Cart button which gave the original error and I then get a Code 500 Page Error, which to me says the change of the cookie code has not worked.

                              What would you be looking for to say a cookie had been produced !
