Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Websecurity forgets who is who?

This morning the office could log in as usual. This afternoon they couldn't. Nothing changed in the interim.
    "Login Information Incorrect"
I had to delete the websecurity files from my document root, republish them and exit and restart the server to get things rolling again.
Is it just me having these problems?

I've had Alpha do similar things to me, but it's pretty rare. Can't say that I have ever found out why. It hasn't happened to me in the last 6 months though.

My advice: worry about it if it keeps happening, but if that was the only time - it may never happen again.

Thanks Larry for the reply. This is an intermittent problem, but when it does happen I catch hell when they can't log in. I guess its just one of those things.

Re: Websecurity forgets who is who?

Michael, this should never happen. You are using pre-release and this was reported by someone else using the same. Check your "stack" error log for statements about "too many tables open". Also, please mention in every single post, that you are using the pre-release so we don't confuse what the report is about.

Yeah, what Steve said. If you read the pre-release notes you will see that there have been a bunch of security bugs introduced recently. Build 3044- 4041 is stable.

            Michael,

I don't know how possible it is for you, but I would definitely move OFF of the pre-release back to the official stable V11 patch. I have read enough, and had a few side conversations, to know you are going to continue to be in a bad spot. The problem with pre-release (as I have said before here) is that you are working ahead of things such as release notes, depreciated, removed or altered functions, etc. In this place, none of the normal Alpha "experts" are not going to be able to help, and the advice you get from others is going to be stabs in the dark. Under those conditions the only guys that can help are Alpha staff, and they are not as available as you might need. It basically is not a safe place to be for a live application. If you cannot go back, or don't want to, you are going to have to roll with the punches.

Re: Websecurity forgets who is who?

              Hi Michael,

As Steve mentioned here, I have this issue reported in another thread Fatal Server Error.
I am still need to do some test to verify that the issue has been resolved, but here is a summary of things that I did that could help with the situation:
              1. The problem seems to be created by the AWS while generating reports it will create temporary DBF files which at some point will reach the limit of available table opened, this then will not allow your users to login if your Security Framework tables are in DBF format.
              2. I covert my security framework to MS-SQL tables to free the AWS to use DBF file in memory for security operations.
              3. Since there is no assurance that the AWS would not trigger that error, I make the decision to get the Report Server that will handle the generation of report in a much better fashion than the AWS itself.
              4. Still I need to test the same scenario as before to see if these procedures will in fact avoid having the AWS to reach the limit of open tables while my end users are generating reports, this will happen at the end of the month, so I will keep you posted in the original thread Fatal Server Error.

                Hi Edhy,
That makes perfect sense since I also am generating reports and have once a day login issues that mandate a server restart. I am not ready to give up 3184 yet because it fixes alot of bugs and the benefits outweigh the risks. I'll look into converting security over to MySQL because in theory it will be removed from the dbf tables. I have also seen Exceeded Maximum Tables before on report generation. I took pains to ensure in my code that only one table at a time would be open at any given moment and that seems to have alleviated that problem. It is my opinion that this web security issue should be given TOP PRIORITY and a patch issued promptly. After all, I'm having good luck with 3184 except for this one issue.

Re: Websecurity forgets who is who?

                  Hi Michael,
                  Please do the following:
                  1. Upgrade to build 3186-4069 which have more security framework updates and it is the one I am using now.
                  2. Move security framework to SQL using the following instructions: http://alphadevnet.com/downloads/Usi...b_Security.pdf

I have also seen Exceeded Maximum Tables before on report generation. I took pains to ensure in my code that only one table at a time would be open at any given moment and that seems to have alleviated that problem.
I am convince, this is just a limitation of using DBF tables internally, so in reality unless you are using Alpha Link Tables, your MySQL or any other SQL database will not trigger this error, only DBF stuff.

If you need any help converting security framework, please let me know I will be glad to assist in any way I can, attached is the MS-SQL scripts which you can modify if needed to MySQL.

That's strange. Never heard of such a thing. Maybe it is something in the pre-release? You can have dozens of dbf tables open at tone time. Never have seen a problem there before.

This seems to be an issue with the way reports are being generated, and the numbers of reports being requested by users in a short period of time, at least that is what I have experienced with my first Alpha application with 20-40 users and just 2 reports they generate twice a month for billing purpose.

Peter, can you share with us some details of your application like:
                        • How many users?
                        • How many reports could be generated on a regular day?
                        • Where is the AWS hosted, and how much RAM?
                        • Are you using SQL database?
                        • How ofter do you re-start the AWS?

Here is the text to create the Web Security files in MySQL. You can use TOAD or some other product to execute statements.
In the example the tables are named 'websec_xxx', so if want something different just change that portion.

                          CREATE TABLE `websec_users` (
                          `guid` varchar(36) NOT NULL,

                            Thank you Mike.
I copied the above into a textfile named websecurity.sql and dragged and dropped it into Navicat and the tables were created flawlessly.

UPDATE: moving my web security to sql eliminated the Maximum Tables Exceeded error, and server reboots are no longer necessary. However, web security logging has ceased.

a5ws_login.log, in my project folder, remains empty. Can someone else verify this behavior?
