Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    e.javascript messagebox help please

    In an XBasic function I am trying to raise a messagebox telling the user to "just hang in there."
    Problem is, nothing happens:

    '== Show wait box
    jtxt = <<%a%
    A5.msgBox.show('Working...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'><img src=\"images/wait.gif\" >&nbsp;Please wait while its processessing</div>','none',function() {});
    %a%
    e.javascript = js_escape(jtxt)

    I'm sure its something dumb that I overlooked but I'm stumped.

    Delete js_escape:

    Code:
    e.javascript = jtxt
    Also...

    Code:
    jtxt = <<%a%
    A5.msgBox.show('Working...','<div style="padding: 20px;"><img src="images/wait.gif">&nbsp;Please wait while it's processing</div>','none',function() {});
    %a%

      Re: e.javascript messagebox help please

      Thank you Sarah for your kind help.
      This is what I have now and it still is not working in my XBasic function:

      '== Show wait box
      dim jtxt as c
      jtxt = <<%a%
      A5.msgBox.show('Working...','<div style="padding: 20px;"><img src="images/wait.gif">&nbsp;Please wait while it's processing</div>','none',function() {});
      %a%
      e.javascript = jtxt

      I'm in Firefox with javascript enabled.
      I'm getting no errors of any kind.

        Re: e.javascript messagebox help please

        Are you assigning the javascript to the correct variable? If this is an ajax callback xbasic function, you might need to return the JS rather than set e.javascript. Something along the line of MyXbasicFunctionName = jtxt.

          A quick test to make sure your actually assigning the js properly:

          Code:
          e.javascript = "alert('Correct!');"

            This should be done as an inline javascript before you call the Ajaxcallback, not in the Xbasic code, which will run on the server and is not visible to the browser.
            Code:
            A5.msgBox.show('Working...','<div style=\'padding: 20px;\'><img src=\"images/wait.gif\" >&nbsp;Please wait while its processessing</div>','none',function() {});

            Then on finishing the callback, include javascript to close the box.
            e.g
            Code:
            Either:

            e.javascript = "A5.msgBox.hide();"

            or

            whatEverYourFunctionNameIs = "A5.msgBox.hide();"

              e.javascript = "alert('Correct!');" doesn't work either.
              This is not an ajax callback, just an XBasic function in the function declarations.
              It is also on the first line following the variable declarations.
              Not working in IE. I thought maybe it was a Firefox thing but apparently not.

                Re: e.javascript messagebox help please

                All Xbasic code executes on the server side and returns (control) to the browser at the bottom (end) of the function.
                Interactivity with the browser during a Xbasic function call is not possible.
                e.javascript = "alert('Correct!');" doesn't work either.

                  Setting e.javascript will not return js to the browser, then. You could return the js to be executed & then pass that on in the calling function:

                  Code:
                  yourXBasicFunction = "alert('return js');"
                  I suppose you could also try accessing A_AjaxREsponses --- assuming you're passing e into the function call.
                  Code:
                  '	dim aa as p
                  '	aa = e.rtc.A_AjaxResponses
                  '	aa[].text = "alert('Search was cancelled because you did not specify a value for the Company field.');"
                  '	aa[..].id = 100 'the order in which AjaxResponses are sent to the browser

                  dim aa as p
                  aa = e.rtc.A_AjaxResponses
                  aa[].text = "alert('Ahhh');"
                  This assumes that e.rtc.A_AjaxResponses is available to you...

                  And, ultimately, the calling xbasic will need to avoid trampling your JS.

                    Re: e.javascript messagebox help please

                    If I move this into the button inline javascript it works fine:

                    A5.msgBox.show('Working...','<div style="padding: 20px;"><img src="images/wait.gif">&nbsp;Please wait while it's processing</div>','none',function() {});

                    What I can't get is, after the downloadable reports have been generated, closing the msgbox in the XBasic function:

                    jtxt = <<%a%
                    A5.msgBox.hide();
                    %a%
                    e.javascript = jtxt

                    What I'm stuck with is a msgbox that won't quit.

                      Are you sure your Xbasic function has the e.javascript?

                      The function created over the AjaxCallback genie does not, and you should use the return of the function instead.
                      i.e

                      Code:
                      ...

                      whatEverYourFunctionNameIs = "A5.msgBox.hide();"

                      end function
