Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Web app server stops working

The web app server stops working at least three times per week.
I am not sure what is causing it, but I did start logging errors.
Here is a snippet with is causing me some concern. The only issue is I do not know what it means, or how to stop it.
What does "Connection reset by peer" mean?
    I would appreciate any suggestions/interpretations/etc.
    Thanks.
    Jay

Connection reset by peer is nothing to be concerned about - it's a regular part of the log.

Your startup message is also appropriate. What's not there is anything before the startup message that suggests an issue.

If you're not working with the latest build (and I'm talking pre-release build) you might consider that, and don't forget to coordinate with your development machine.

      Thanks, Steve.
I am (was) a bit reluctant to go to the newest build, for various reasons, but may try that. If I do, I will post the results here.
      Thanks again.

Connection reset per peer means that you server drops request just like that.

When you stress test Was you can see that dropping requests is common behavior of Was.

In fact it is a bad thing. Lazy workers.

Connection reset by peer is the server's peer - the browser - dropping the connection. This is generally normal operation as users press the stop button, reload, or navigate away from the page that was loading. In fact, the log line for these has been changed from an [error] event to an [info] event to be consistent with other servers.

In normal operation, this is not a bad thing. But if you are seeing a large number of connection resets, it could be indicative of an application problem such as users being unclear as to which links to click, or becoming impatient with the server response time.

            Jay,

Not sure if you saw that others solved this by turning off GZIP and Keep Alive in the WAS performance tab. I have had the same problem and have turned them off. I'll let you know how it works.

Why would turning these off make a difference?

              Any one have a clue?

              thanks

Not sure, but mine's been running for almost a week without shutting down, since I've turned them both off.

Jay remember to turn off logging errors when you have reached a conclusion. The log file can become quite large after a while and slow things down. You can also set it to clear at regular intervals.
