Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Initial Value for Grid Field

    Hi All,

I am having a problem that is driving me mad so hopefully someone can help.

I have a field on a Grid that I want to set to the CurrentUser. The current user is an email address which is set in a Session Variable called vuserid.

I thought I would simply set initial value on that field to session.vuserid but when I run the Grid that field is blank.

The vuserid is set because it filters the Grid Corrrectly and I also have a page whixh shows me the current settings.

    Any help appreciated.

    Chris

Does it help if you an equals sign in front, or not? =session.vuserid (stab in the dark)

Re: Initial Value for Grid Field

What are you actually typing in to your initial value? IIRC, your initial value should be "=session.vuserid" without the quotes. Also, this will only work when running on the server.

ETA: Carol bear me to the punch. Typing on a phone ia too slow! LOL.

        LOL

        Both, Tried that already.

Does it matter that the I am not using a bound table - The field I am trying to set is operator field.

SELECT person_id, surname, chosen_forename, class_code, spacer, NULL AS consequence, NULL AS operator
        FROM rs.rsp_stud_send_vln_ks2_header_row_with_class
        ORDER BY surname, chosen_forename

Re: Initial Value for Grid Field

Yes, you could try using a different name for your field in the query. Also, you could try '' AS fieldname instead of NULL as fieldname.

You could also set an argument in your query and use that. ':argumentname' AS fieldname. Then you'd set the argument value to your session variable.

            Thanks

Created an Argument Teacher - Set the Variable to session.vuserid

Amended Code to below and the default operator is set and working - So thanks for the heads up

SELECT person_id, surname, chosen_forename, class_code, spacer, NULL AS consequence, :teacher AS operator, NULL AS period
            FROM rs.rsp_stud_send_vln_ks2_header_row_with_class
            ORDER BY surname, chosen_forename

I know this is a bit naughty I need to do the same with the Period but the Field is Calculated - I wondered if you help with that? What it would look like and how to implement it as a default.

If the Time is between 09:00 and 10:00 then P1
If the Time is between 10:01 and 11:00 then P2
If the Time is between 11:01 and 12:00 then P3
If the Time is between 12:01 and 13:00 then P4

            Upto P7 which is 15:35.

I'm on my phone still, but check my SQL in this thread: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...Already-Exists

Then google SQL CONVERT as you may need it.

I'm using a date but time should work as well.

Re: Initial Value for Grid Field

In the Grid field's 'Initial value' property I entered "=a5ws_getcurrentuser()" without the quotes. The function returns the value of User ID control in the Login web component. I didn't use a session variable.

(In a Dialog, the same function worked in a field's 'Default value' property.)
