Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Thinking outloud - RE: Security Groups & Buttons, links, etc

Why are there no security settings available for buttons, images, and links inserted into grids? They're there for dialogs. ???

I believe all those have security. Not sure why you're not seeing it?

They're there for me? Unless I'm missing something?

I'll make an addition to your post though:

Why isn't there an easy way to create a new group and automatically set all of your components permissions for that new group? Creating a new group sucks really REALLY bad when you are using a lot of group based permissions.

Ah. My grid is a Form type, not Tabular. Bet that has something to do with it.

          Post Message Update:

Why do Grids using a FORM LAYOUT have no security settings for buttons, links, images, etc?!

          noSecurity.png

And why do I need to make the grid "Column Layout" to get them to appear?!

Yeah, you're right Sarah. I just looked at one of my Form type grids and I had to use a show/hide expression to do permissions. I suddenly remember making that grid and thinking that it sucked that there wasn't an option for group security.

P.S. And, just because saying it once isn't enough....Creating new security groups really stinks!

Actually, I'm really glad I posted this. Because I figured out how to get the security settings to show up after you two replied.

To nobody's credit, I am running 2-3 V11 releases ago.

Oh! Yes. IF you make it a Column layout, set your security settings, and then convert it back to a form layout, the settings show up.

Maybe you should send it in as a bug? I've just sent one in about my 500 error so I've used up my quota for the day. Don't want to get Selwyn angry with me THIS early in the week.

Yeah. I'll do that. But, they'll probably tell me to download latest. And homie don't play that.

Well, you can tell them that the "latest" has the same deal. Haha.

I figured as much since there was nothing about it in the release notes. At least setting them in Tabular layout mode actually maintains the settings even though you can't access them in Form view.

Sent in the bug report yesterday. Alpha said they fixed it. So you bleeding-edgers will have a more improved A5 experience next whenever.
