Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Close a5w page in tabbed_ui

    I have a grid w.a n action button:

    {grid.Object}.closeCurrentTabbedUIPane();

    That used to work until I put the grid on an a5w page. What, pray tell, code do i need to close the page in the tabbed_ui?

    I'm sure I've done this before but I can't find a code sample.

    Not sure if this is your exact scenario, but define your own function and call it from the button instead.
    If there is no tabbedUI object in the current window, then check in the parent window instead.

    Code:
    function myCloseCurrentTabbedUIPane() {
      if(typeof tbiObj != 'undefined') {
          //standard close
        closeCurrentTabbedUIPane();
      } else {
          //close in parent window
        var idx = window.parent.tbiObj._tbObj._curTabIndx;
        window.parent.tbiObj._tbObj.remove(idx);
      }
    }

      Peter,

      This works but it closes all open panes: window.parent.tbiObj.closeOpenPanes()

      There's probably another method for just closing the current Pane but I can't find it so quickly right now

          Thanks Frank. I use that for my "close all". See Andy's function above. Works perfectly.

            You're welcome Peter. I notice you're in Boston so maybe we'll meet this summer? Alpha's survey today asked about attending a conference this summer in Boston: seen that ? I really need to drive a car once in Boston,once heard it is not your everyday experience ?

              I'm afraid I didn't receive any survey (as usual).

              Here is how I learned to drive in Boston - the first time I went in (age 16?), I was trying to change lanes but no one would give me any space to do so. So I closed my eyes and turned the wheel into the lane* - and Voil! It worked.

                If this true, I cannot wait!!

                      No probs Peter.
                      I guess for completeness, you should replace the "else" with:
                      else if(typeof window.parent.tbiObj != 'undefined') {

                        Nice code Andy, I have saved it for my future reference.

                        Peter, the v12 beta survey was in my junk mail because it was from surveymonkey.com, just found it and filled it in. Bit silly in places, there is a question with replies Yes/No/Other. I filled in other, the survey wouldn't commit until I also added either yes or no!!
