Can A5.msgbox.show (javascript popup) be used to display a SESSION variable?

I want to display a GLOBAL or SESSION variable value within a javascript popup. Despite the apparent simplicity of this question and much searching and reading, I haven't been able to find an example on the A5 Forum, Alphapedia, or the net in general.

Problem:

• Several "action buttons" have been defined for a grid
• I want to use the button to toggle a value from TRUE to FALSE and back again
• But for DEBUG purposes I also want to temporarily have the button display the variable value in the javascript popup
• While I could use other forms of dialog or an A5W page, I need to understand variable scope between underlying components and "in-line javascript"

The simple javascript command I'm using is:

The easiest way I can think of doing this is to incorporate it into an Xbasic Ajax callback.
I think it can be done with something like this:

Whereas I am familiar with web tech (Apache, Tomcat, IIS, .NET, C#, etc) and javascript/DHTML, I'm still figuring out where the boundaries are between A5 components, javascript vs. Xbasic, and getting global variables to work in a truly global manner. Your input helps!

Jay,

Your note pointed me in the correct direction.

I took the following actions (in case someone else finds value in this post):

1. Created an "action button" via the "properties" section of my GRID
2. In the details of the "action button", added a button name and other details... then added an "Ajax callback"
3. While still in the "action button" and "ajax callback" screen, I used the links at the bottom of the screen to build a prototype "function"
4. Then copied the prototype function and put it in the "Xbasic functions" area (also accessible via a link on the same dialog)
5. then defined a dummy variable (e.g., "vs_temp")
6. and returned jsText similar to what you noted (trimmed down quite a bit)
7. NOTE: had to remove double-quotes and substitute with "CHAR(34)"
8. But... in the end I got a popup with the required message.
9. I will post images and details when I have a bit more time (in case it helps someone else).
