Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Excel Issue (SQL::Connection object)

    The code works on 1 server and locally, but does not work on the other. (Knew this was gonna happen when I moved servers again).
    All servers have the same excel version installed (Microsoft Excel 2010).
    I have installed the Microsoft Access Database Engine (has connectivity components for Data Interop between applications).
    Nothing seems to work, all I want to see is the 'opened' text

    Any ideas?
    The file DOES exist, Excel IS installed, I have tried different A5ExcelVersions, I cannot get it to open.
    Can an Alpha Employee chime in on what is required to use SQL::Connection with excel files (this stuff works on other servers, so its not a code issue, there must be something that needs to be installed, Generic ODBC drivers or something?)

    Code:
    <%a5
    	dim excel_conn as SQL::Connection
    	if excel_conn.Open("{A5API=Excel,FileName='C:\temp\BATCH SAMPLE.xlsx',A5ExcelVersion=2010}") then
    	    ?"opened"
    		excel_conn.close()
    	else
    		?"Keep Trying! We WILL fix this."
    	end if

    I ran into this a bit ago as well. When I backed the A5ExcelVersion down to 2007 it worked.

      Hi Steve,
      I tried that already and it did not work.

      Did you have to install anything else? (any sort of connectivity package?)
      As I said, I KNOW the code works, I have it working on 2 servers. But it just doesnt wanna work on this pesky new production server.

        Re: Excel Issue (SQL::Connection object)

        It's been a while since I ran into this, but I think my first attempt at the connection was with the regular AlphaDAO connection genie. When I tried that I got a message about needing to update/add drivers. After I did this it still didn't work but the connection string as shown in what you're doing did do the job.

        At least that's the best that I remember.

          Hey Steve,
          Thanks for your reply.

          By AlphadDAO connection genie do you mean the Web Projects Control Panel > Edit > Manage Connection String > AlphaDAO Connection Strings?

          I can't get the update/add driver box to popup.
          Do you remember what the drivers were?
          Trying to jog your memory:
          Database Connectivity?
          Excel Connectivity?
          JET?
          ODBC Drivers?
          .NET Framework 3.0 / 3.5 / 4.0?

          Appreciate your help so far.

            Re: Excel Issue (SQL::Connection object)

            Apparently using A5ExcelVersion=2010 uses the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components and NOT the 2010 Connectivity Components.

            http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/downl....aspx?id=23734 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components

            Come on....

            ANyways, this should solve the issue
