Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Back to Iteration Question

    I'm returning to this question because it would make things so much more simple if there is an answer. I have conquered the overall problem using an ajaxcallback and another sql table. This just seems like overkill with hundreds of lines of code needed and multiple callbacks. However, all I want to do is iterate through a repeating section and set the value of one field into another. For instance, "Field A" has a value of "11" and I want "Field B" to have a value of "11". Both Field A and Field B are on the same line in the repeating section, though Field B is hidden. I need to loop through all the rows of the repeating section making "Field B" the same as "Field A" in each row, whatever the value of Field A is in that row. I cannot get this done with my understanding of the use of _A5INSTANCE though I suspect that is the key to making this happen.

    Thanks

    Hi Chris,

    I'm sure you have a very good reason but please forgive me for asking, why do you want to duplicate data in the same row of a repeating section?

      Re: Back to Iteration Question

      No problem Keith-
      It's an inventory system with a field for units and then there are fields for intransit, sold, available, on ground, etc. When the user selects whether the Warehouse receipt has been "Received" or "Cancelled Receipt" then I want to update either the on ground, available, intransit, etc. Those same fields get updated if the user does some type of assembly or disassembly work or if the some are sold, etc. The field can be popluated when the user originally enters the order as that might be or might not be when the order is received or when it is actually received. Many users don't even put the line items in until the receipt is made. But not all, so I have to adjust to that.

        Re: Back to Iteration Question

        Here is an example javascript function that you can call from wherever it makes sense. You will need to change CONTAINER_1 to your container name, and the names of the fields to match:

        function SetFieldAtoFieldB() {
        for (var i=0;i<={dialog.Object}._getRepeatingSectionRowCount('CONTAINER_1');i++)
        {
        var row = ':' + {dialog.object}._repeatingSectionLogicalToPhysicalRow('CONTAINER_1',i);
        {dialog.Object}.setValue('FIELDB' + row,{dialog.Object}.getValue('FIELDA' + row));
        }
        }

          Michael-
          That works GREAT! Exactly what I needed.

          Thanks,
          Chris
