Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Puzzled with server side formats in the dialog grid

I am trying to calculate some values in a dialog grid that include a look-up for one of the values from a grid component.

So, in Europe we are used to notations as 0,00 instead of 0.00
The values in the grid component are all showing 0,00.

However, the dialog component seems to want to calculate in 0.00 no matter what I do with the formats.

Even when the formats in the dialog show as 0,00 it still calculates in 0.00 notation what means that it would calculate it as a thousand, so it sees 1,00 as one thousand.
    This is really bugging me.

I can "display-format" the fields in the dialog, though that seems only client side (client side properties) and it seems not to influence what is calculated at the back server-side.
The moment I get the values from the lookup grid, it directly sees it as thousands and calculates correspondingly, so that 10,00 * 100 would be 100.000 instead of the aimed and expected 1.000
I can then succesfully change the visible format to 100.000,00 but that offers little comfort if the correct result must be 1.000,00 (or 1,000.00 as you would write).

How on earth do I get this right?
Thanks in advance for any helpful comment!

    Marcel,

I have not yet played with Dialog (UX) grids but ordinary grids have an "unformat property" when you enter a display format. The unformat property is what you need I think. I had quite a few email exchanges and samples sent over to get that working ok for me with belgian regional settings. Now it's your turn to dive into this :-) I can PM you the email thread from back then if you like, PM me your email address.

The issue is resolved with help of Jerry Brightbill, for which many thanks!

I needed to add some javascript in the functions panel of the dialog grid like this:
        Code:
        $u.comma = '.'
        $u.decimal = ','
After that, calculations performed as desired.

          Marcel,

you mean you put that code just like that in the 'javascript functions' sectoion of the dialog component ? Or in a function that you have defined there ? Is that a final solution or a workaround ?

Re: Puzzled with server side formats in the dialog grid

Just like that in the javascript functions section indeed.
This imho should not even be necessary since I declared a custom format (type number) where this already is specifically mentioned. Beats me why this should also be repeated in the javafunctions. I can only think that the formatting done in the custom format option clientside is not working properly, otherwise why state two exactly the same parameters in two different parts of the dialog?
However, being a workaround or a final solution (I have no info on this but might understand it is just a workaround and gets fixed at some point) it does work and that in the end is what matters most.

I don't like workarounds, would love to see Jerry's comments on this (as most other international developers I guess)

This is not a bug. The Client side calculations genie has a link for International Issues. It indicates you need to add some code to the Javascript functions to properly format the calculations.

If you add this to the Javascript function code, the calculations work.

                $u.comma ='.'
                $u.decimal = ','
Still stands, that I think this should not be necessary since you already specified exactly that parameters in the client side format specs. But... it works...
