Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Cant publish to zebra host server using Version 11

I have read on this forum about problems early on in FTP publishing web apps in V11. I am trying to make the switch from V10.5 to V11 and can't get it to publish to my Zebra Host server. I am still running V10.5 also and it publishes just fine as it always has. In reading about this issue my problems are similar to those in the past with regard to only the a5_application.a5i file getting published in the A5webroot. It also publishes only one file related to data, a CDX file.

It seems to me that if the server has locked these files then V10.5 would also have issues but it does not. I am having V11 try and publish the same exact project that V10.5 is successfully publishing. Obviously I am doing so under different roots but I have also deleted and recreated the root directories empty and still only V10.5 can publish.

Any help would be appreciated. This move to V11 is not all the pie and ice cream it was made out to be.

Update.. I just confirmed through Admin Share and Store Management that none of these files or directories are locked.

    Thanks,

    Chuck

Re: Cant publish to zebra host server using Version 11

I can't offer much help, but I began having the same issue a few weeks ago. It started abruptly, with no recent changes or updates. It started to hang on the a5_application.a5i file and then would error or just not complete. I tried everything including restoring the complete project, re-installing Alpha and everything else I could think of. I finally gave up and now I use filezilla to publish. It has added a few more steps but it also has a few advantages. I talked to Clive at Zebrahost and he assured me there was no changes on the server which would have cause the problem. If v12 does the same thing, then I will need to dig deeper to find a fix. If you do figure it out, please let me know.

Thanks for the reply. Guess I will have to try Filezilla as well. I can't spend another night into the wee morning hours trying to figure out what changed with V11 publishing features compared to V10. I just started with V11 and the FTP publishing has never worked. My first publishing attempt a couple days ago. Quite a letdown :-(.

Using Fillezilla now but my gosh how cumbersome can this get and slow as molasses. It is at least transferring the files but at this rate the project will take 20 hours to upload. Takes 3 minutes with A5V10 publishing the entire project. SO I know its not the connection. Hopefully someone from Alpha has a clue about this??

            Please refer to THIS thread.

We have also identified a problem with some virus and firewall software. if you are using a firewall that blocks port scanning, the FTP may fail (using any FTP client).

Re: Cant publish to zebra host server using Version 11

Jerry, I appreciate the thread link but I had read that already as indicated in the first post. Given your response I am wondering if you have read my post fully. I currently run V10.5. I am trying to transition to V11. So I am able to compare the performance of each on the same system. Is there something different about the V11 FTP client compared to the V10.5 FTP client that would account for your response. I would assume that virus and firewall software settings would similarly hinder both FTP clients. Yet V10.5 publishes to the server just fine.

I have verified that none of the files or directories are locked on the server.
I don't know how to determine if the upload validates but again it works in V10.5
If the connection was not clean or the router had issues, line issues, network issues the I assume that would effect V10.5 as well.
If the upload socked opens and is accepted for V10.5 then why not V11
Why would the connection to the server only be lost for V11 and not V10.5

With V10.5 I can and usually do run a concurrent RDP connection to the server while publishing. There has never been a problem doing this. However I tried not doing it with V11 w/o improving the result.
Timeout has never followed up by completing normally in V11. I have never had a timeout condition using V10.5.

Try a different third party FTP program. This one erks me because I spent a wad of cash for A5V11 and the publishing feature should work as advertised. A third party FTP adds a layer of steps that frankly waste my time. I have used two of them now and it is unacceptable to me.

Very frustrating so far. If I have to give up on the built in publishing feature then I will give up on the upgrade and see about getting refunded. But I am not there yet. Still hope this can be resolved.

Re: Cant publish to zebra host server using Version 11

I did finally discover my problem.

Windows Firewall was blocking Inbound traffic for Alpha5V11.exe. It was only allowing Outbound. For whatever reason it did not do the to Alpha5V10.exe.

Once I allowed this the V11 FTP client works just fine for publishing.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with SP1. Somehow without my knowing Windows Firewall cooped the firewall duty from Symantec. Regardless, I simply needed to "Allow a Program through Windows Firewall" which is an option that comes up if you type "Firewall" In the search programs and files box under the start menu. Again it was the Inbound traffic that was blocked.

Perhaps this will help others. I think windows update made some changes to the firewall that resulted in this behavior which may explain why some folks suddenly had this FTP issue in V11.

                Best.
