Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Conditional Bubble Help

    Is it possible to put a conditional bubble help text on a control?

    For example:
    If my conditional image is green - bubble help says "Active"
    If my conditional image is red - bubble help says "Inactive"

    Re: Conditional Bubble Help

    Depends on where you want the code to go. In a mouseOver it would be something like this.
    Code:

    If (my_conditional_image == 'green')
    {
    this.title = 'Active';
    }
    else If (my_conditional_image == 'red')
    {
    this.title = 'Inactive';
    }

      Re: Conditional Bubble Help

      Thanks Frank for the suggestion,

      I've been trying to get this to work in the onMouseOver event but I'm having trouble with the image name.
      I have a conditional image [Image.4] in the grid builder that is either a red orb or green orb, depending on a date field:

      Conditional Image.JPG

      Looking at the image in Firebug, it seems to be called '_UNBOUND_DYNAMICIMAGE_4':

      Firebug Element Name.JPG

      But when I run the javascript, I get name undefined error:

      Code:
      if (_UNBOUND_DYNAMICIMAGE_4 == '$$generic.orb.red.small')
       {
       this.title = 'Active';
       }
      else if (_UNBOUND_DYNAMICIMAGE_4 == '$$generic.orb.red.small')
       {
       this.title = 'Expired';
       }
      Undefined Error.JPG

      Anyone have any suggestions, am I missing something simple?

        Well, now I can get it to work like this (meaning it doesn't complain about UNDEFINED), but it only displays the else case ("Expired").

        Code:
        var rn={grid.object}._selectedRow;
        var status = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','4',rn);

        if ('4' == 'status')
         {
         this.title = 'Active';
         }
        else
         {
         this.title = 'Expired';
         }

          Re: Conditional Bubble Help

          Is 4 a fieldname ???

          using var status = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','4',rn); you query the grid for the value in fieldname '4'

          Do this

          var status = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','FIELDNAMEINUPPERCASE',rn);

          if (status == 'the value for active')
          {
          this.title = 'Active';
          }
          else
          {
          this.title = 'Expired';
          }

            Stephen,

            There's another problem: you are using the SELECTED row but you need the row that you are hovering over. If for example row 2 is selected and you simply hover over row 5 then you want the tooltip to correspond with the status value of the row you're hovering over.

            This is how you can determine the row being hovered over in a grid: (put this in your onmouseover code & notice the difference as you hover over your grid)

            var rn={grid.object}._selectedRow;
            var hoverRow = this.id.substr(this.id.indexOf('.R')+2);
            hoverRow = hoverRow.substr(0,hoverRow.indexOf('.'));
            alert('selected row = '+rn+' Hovered over row = '+hoverRow);
            Frank

              Frank,

              You are right about the selected row vs hover. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to make this work but no joy.
              Wow, this is way more difficult than I expected it would be!

              Code:
              var hoverRow = this.id.substr(this.id.indexOf('.R')+2);
              hoverRow = hoverRow.substr(0,hoverRow.indexOf('.'));
              var status = {grid.Object}.getValue('G','_UNBOUND_DYNAMICIMAGE_4',hoverRow);

              if (status == true)
               {
               this.title = 'Active';
               }
              else if (status == false)
               {
               this.title = 'Expired';
               }
              This only displays the false case "Expired" whether I hover over the green image or red image.
              I think part of the problem is when you getValue() for a built in Alpha image, it always returns 'false'. At least in an alert box it does.

                Stephen,

                {grid.Object}.getValue('G','_UNBOUND_DYNAMICIMAGE_4',hoverRow) will not work on an image field & always return false

                put an alert in your code to see what code is being returned & then build your if statement.

                Why do you want to check on the value of the conditional image ? Can't you just check the condition you use to determine which image to show ?

                  Haven't tried this but what if you create a calculated field with the values you want and in the bubble help you show that field?
