Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Print a TabbedUI Pane

    Has anyone ever tried to print just the Pane of a tabbed UI? I know it's possible, but I didn't know if anyone had already figured out the code. Let me know, either way, I'll post my result when done.

    Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

    I know I'm not answering what you're asking, but if you call an a5w page into a tabbed UI pane, window.print() will print that page. I will be curious to see your code.

      Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

      As Chris explained, this is what I use in the page. It prints whatever is in the page:

      <form style="margin-left: 12px;"><input type="button" name="printtable" value="Print" onclick="print()" class="nfnButton" ></form>

      where "nfnButton" is the style of the button in the "nfn" style. If you are using the GrBlue style, use "GrBlueButton"

        Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

        I understand what you are saying, but I have over a few dozen components in the tabbed ui, and I would rather have something in the TabbedUI that has the code for printing, rather than in each page. From the research I've done today it looks like I need to capture the html from the open pane into a new javascript document object, then call print on that.

          Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

          Here's the info for future reference:

          After some testing, I'm finding that tbiObj._tbObj._curTabIndx is unreliable, and that .contentWindow only exists if the tab is an a5w page, not a grid or dialog.

            Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

            Ok, this works all the time for me. It get's the DOM Object, then checks to see if it's an iframe or not (the .contentWindow means it's an iframe) If it exists print, otherwise print the whole page (not just the iframe)

            var frame = document.getElementById(tbiObj._tbObj._panes[tbiObj._tbObj._curTabIndx]._id+"\.PANE");
            if(typeof frame.contentWindow != 'undefined'){
            } else window.print();

              Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

              what would you suggest to print just the contents of the open and visible pane?
              I copied your code into the onclick JS event but got pretty much the same results as window.print()
              obviously because of the if and else statement being true.
              Also I would think there are options that could be coded in to shrink the contents to the page.
              I have not researched this, so pardon my ignorance but I thought the pane was an iframe the component sits in. If it's a Div then seems like we shoudl be looking for the div_id instead but again - I am not sure exactly what I am asking technically just that I would like a button that simply prints the contents of the currently visible pane.
              any takers?

                Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

                I have that code in the onClick Javascript event on a button in my tabbed ui. It should do exactly that, print only the contents of the visible pane. The pane is an iframe that loads the entire dom of the page in it's pane. I would do some research inside your developer tools and verify that your tabbed ui object's name is actually tbiObj. Basically, you need to get a pointer to the main dom element of the frame, then call .print on that.

                  Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

                  <a href="whatever.htm" onClick="window.print();return false"><img src="print.gif"></a>

                  This will display a clickable button that will open the Windows print screen.
                  It must not point to a real page. You can leave the href as is.

                    If you do it this way, the code must be embedded on each individual pane. Using the code that I wrote above, you can embed the code inside the tabbed ui and it will dynamically retrieve the correct pane and print only the contents of that pane.

                      Re: Print a TabbedUI Pane

                      Man I just wish it worked for me! looks like when I use dev tools that it is named tbiObj just like yours. Is that default?

                        I would really appreciate anyone's additional input on helping me get this done. I simply want to have a code snippet I can put in the onclick to print the contents of the pane contents in a tabbedui. I have tried many variations but I cannot seem to get it working.
