Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

IE9 Object doesn't support this property of method

I thought that updating java on the machine would solve this but it hasn't.
I have a grid built with a quick search part and a javascript action button to display a report which has a sql filter currentgridfilter().

    Alpha v11 3381_4096, MySQL backend

On my development machine win7 IE9 latest java 7,21, I can perform the quick search and print the report with the button.
On another PC in the LAN, win2003 svr IE9 latest java 7,21, When I try and add a new record, the modal window doesn't appear. When I try and perform the quick search to find a few records and then click the action button and get the following error. I can use Firefox and everything works when IE9 doesn't.

    Webpage error details

Re: IE9 Object doesn't support this property of method

In order to look at line 229, character 1077, where could I find the js file in the referenced link on a windows 7 machine using IE9:
    mydomainname.net:82/loan_denials/javascript/a5-33814096.js?A5WSessionId=469b2d9564ab4d7c8d3edf93b87a3c72
I have looked on my webserver in the path but can't find it there. Is this built on the fly on my machine?

Re: IE9 Object doesn't support this property of method

Workaround but not a good one.
I have discovered that I can load the page and try and perform a quick search in IE9 but nothing responds. I can then try and sort a column or two but still no response. If I press f5 to force a page refresh, all pieces work including my action button javascript to load my report. What could be causing this and how can I resolve?

      Thanks

On your server with IE9, try checking the option in the browser for "compatibility view". Sure fixed a problem I had with IE9.

What's the code you wrote for adding the record?

Re: IE9 Object doesn't support this property of method

No code on adding the record, just created the standard grid that allowed for adding/changing records.
The only feature I added behind the report button was SQL filter of currentgridfilter() which will only print the records in the current grid search.

Could someone please tell me what I need to do to trap for the error below. I just need to know the process of trapping for this.

                  HI George,
Did you ever work this out? I have hit the exact same error except all I am doing is filtering a grid and get this error exect on IE8.
Firefox, chrome and IE10 are all fine when this grid was running in V10 it worked I upgraded the server to V11 and now I get this error in IE8... which is unfortunately the mandated browser for the office

Re: IE9 Object doesn't support this property of method

No, sorry I haven't. I only have a work around for the staff member to view my v11 flavor. You can use IE9 and once your v11 app page is retrieved in the browser, press f5 to force a page refresh. All should work then, but you have to train the user to do this on first load of the page. The other solution I used was to install firefox on the users workstation that needed to run the v11 features I used.

Re: IE9 Object doesn't support this property of method

This is so weird. In my Case I have an absolutely simple grid that looks at one MS SQL table the search part has one field (UserID) and the main grid has 2 fields (UserID, UserName)... That is is No detail part no fancy stuff.
I have even rebuilt the grid from scratch and still it hangs in IE8 when I click on the Search button! If I set Compatibility Mode then it will work but it is madness that a grid that is as simple as this does not work in IE8.
And before anyone asks... IE8 is unfortunately the mandated browser for the client's office (due to the workstations being XP and they have other reasons fro not running Chrome/ Firefox etc.
I am running the current V11 server release Build 3381-4096

                      Anyone have any ideas?

You need to figure out what the object is attempting to call. Turn on IE's debugger and set it up to break on errors and look at the call stack. Settings are for this will be listed under "Script". Reload the page, and debug to your heart's content.
