Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Xbasic problem with SQL statements (could be a Alpha five defect)

    In the begining of the function I have opened a SQL table with no problems.
    Code:
    dim conn as sql::connection
    	dim sqlCommand as c
    	dim args as SQL::Arguments
    	dim rs as SQL::ResultSet
    	dim ct as n
    	ct=0
    	args.add("whattrans",33)
    	flag1 =conn.open("::name::Inventory")
    	sqlCommand = "SELECT Transactions.Transaction_no, Transactions.Site, Transactions.SubSite, TransactionParts.Location, TransactionParts.Part_number, TransactionParts.Condition, TransactionParts.AutoInc, TransactionParts.Quantity, Transactions.UserName, Transactions.TransDate, TransactionParts.Processed FROM Transactions Transactions INNER JOIN TransactionParts TransactionParts ON  Transactions.Transaction_no = TransactionParts.Transaction_no WHERE Transactions.Transaction_no = :whattrans"
    	flag2 = conn.execute(sqlCommand,args)
    	rs= conn.ResultSet
    	recexist=rs.NextRow()
    I have read one line at a time into arrays no problem.
    I later open another sql table to update and or insert the values from the arrays into the table.
    Code:
    sqlCommand = "SELECT Site, SubSite, Location, Part_ID, Condition, Qty, UserName, Updated FROM NInventory WHERE Site = :site AND SubSite = :subsite AND Part_ID = :partno"
    			flag4 = conn.execute(sqlCommand,args)
    			sql_ResultSet_preview(rs)
    If I view the results, the result always show tha fields from the orginal SQL table. I have tried testing this in the interactive window by running just the sql code from the second table even after closing the function and I still get the fields form the first table. Yet, I am able to do an insert into the second table. Is this a defect of Alpha 5?

    You are obviously not showing some of your code, but one piece I don't see in what you have done is where you reset rs as the result set of the second select statement. So it should be
    flag4 = conn.execute(sqlCommand,args)
    rs=conn.ResultSet
    sql_ResultSet_preview(rs)
    Otherwise, you are viewing the result set from the first execute, not the second.

      That seemed to fix the problem. (can't believe one missing line)

      I noticed that there doesn't seem to be any examples of how to process records from one SQL table to another using a function. So I would like to post this example of this.

      (microsoft has a Tek tips and tricks forum for most of their products showing example code of how to do lots of different things. I have found this to be very helpful and time saving) The examples have come from Q&A on a forum just like this. (anytime a good answer with an example is found to do anything it gets tested, posted, and catagorised)

      This will save on repeat questions.

      Thanks

        Down at the bottom of the forum, there is a place for such things.
