Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Adding minutes to a date field

    I have 2 date fields. Start date and End date. Both include time. The dates are used to indicate the start and end time for a match fixture. The interval between the two date/time fields is fixed being 90 minutes. In other words if the start date = 10 January 2013 13:00:00 the end date can be calculated to 10 January 2013 14:30:00. I created a javascript function,
    function addMinutes(datein){
     return new Date(datein.setMinutes(datein.getMinutes() + 90));
    I then use this function in a calculated field expression on the end date. image1.JPG
    My problem is that I get an error message saying that the .getMinutes method is not supported. I assume that the problem is related to the data type (value being passed to the function). Any help on this will be appreciated as my javascript skills are very limited

    Re: Adding minutes to a date field

    sorry to bounce this. Anyone?

      Re: Adding minutes to a date field

      since end date is calculated and is fixed to 90 minutes after the start date you can use calculated field in grid building as opposed to saving the data as itself.
      the questions obviously to follow are
      is this dbf or sql
      is this an updatable grid or dialog
      i can help to do this in
      mySql, on a grid with an updatable detail view which makes it easy for you to manipulate the data for you to see
      if interested i can show elaborate the idea.

        Re: Adding minutes to a date field

        The end date will be calculated as a default date but must be editable in case the user wants to shorten or lengthen the period. I am using sql (sql server) and it is an updateble grid. Interested to look at your solution to give me ideas and guidance

          Re: Adding minutes to a date field

          function addMinutes(date_time1) {
          var d = new Date(date_time1);
          var m = d.getTime();
          return new Date(m + 90*60000);
          i did not have time and all other previous attempts did not succeed
          the above code seem to calculate the projected end_time.

          however i still have few problems.
          1> the display can not be changed to something else when i have this in calculated expression.
          2> the display property is different from what i set it to be
          3> i am not able to call this ajax from the initial value of end time or the onchange event of the start time either.
          may be you can improve this.
          when you solve this if you post your work i can learn from that.
          thanks for reading
