Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Vertical Scroll Bar Missing on Edit-Combo List

    I have a textbox that uses the edit-combo list as a Lookup for acceptable values. The list can be lengthy. It is set to a height of 3 in. Using Google Chrome on a Windows 7 computer, a vertical scroll bar automatically appears for scrolling the list. Using Google Chrome on a Windows 8 computer, the scroll bar is missing. The options that do not fit inside the list box are not shown.

    I was just shown this today by a user of an existing A5 application. The latest release of version 11 is being used. I have not yet tried to reproduce this with a simple dialog. I will try that next. Anybody have any ideas on this one.

    Re: Vertical Scroll Bar Missing on Edit-Combo List

    I have attached a sample dialog that produces the problem. The dialog uses the AlphaSports database. I ran it as a component on a TABUI in a published application. When I click the dropdown, it lists about 20 options but doesnt allow any scrolling. Remember, it only produces these results using the Windows 8 operating system and Google Chrome browser. Any workaround suggestions? This may be a bug. I have submitted a report, but do not have feedback yet.

      Re: Vertical Scroll Bar Missing on Edit-Combo List

      The following the Selwyn Rabin's reply to my bug report on the missing scroll bar as described in the previous posts. If your app is running on a computer with a touch screen, this is important info:

      Turning off Drag Scrolling - Some machines support both touch events and a mouse. On these machines certain controls (such as the edit-combo) will not have a vertical scrollbar because it is assumed that the user will use a touch gesture to scroll the list. However, you might want to turn off touch (i.e. drag) scrolling and force the user to use the mouse to scroll content.
      This can be done by executing the following Javascript command.

      A5.u.drag.useDragScrolling = 'never';

      A convenient place to execute this Javascript (if your components are run from a Tabbed UI) is in the 'Javascript to run on startup' property of the Tabbed UI.

      If your components are not run from a Tabbed UI, you could add a <script> tag to the page that loads the component. You must execute the Javascript before the component has loaded.
      For example:

      <script>
      A5.u.drag.useDragScrolling = 'never';
      </script>

        Re: Vertical Scroll Bar Missing on Edit-Combo List

        After adding A5.u.drag.useDragScrolling = 'never'; to the startup javascript for my Tabbed UI component, my vertical scrollbar still did not show up in the edit-combo list. I did find that I could get it to scroll by holding down the mouse button and dragging (both with and without the startup javascript). I suppose that will have to do.

          Anyone get this to work. I have tried both solutions posted but still no scrollbar in Google chrome.

            Re: Vertical Scroll Bar Missing on Edit-Combo List

            I never got it to work for my application. I made a small working example of the problem with the AlphaSports database. I discussed it with Selwyn, but he says it works for him. If you get a solution, I would be very interested. Currently, my users just work around it.

              Thanks Donna. Not the news I was hoping to hear. If I do ever find a solution I will be sure to let you know, but I don't think it will happen very soon. Surprised there is not more in the forum on this. With more and more people using Chrome, there should be more on this.

                Re: Vertical Scroll Bar Missing on Edit-Combo List

                I know this is old but it helped me figure out somethign that has been a bother for quite some time now. I have a UX with look-ups that I could not get scroll bars in for nothing. I put
                A5.u.drag.useDragScrolling = 'never';
                in the clientside OnInitializebegin
                interestingly enough - drag scrolling on touch devices still works (assuming it is the browser compensating) and scroll bars are back now on the desktop so I am FINALLY pleased with this!
