Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Auto Refresh Grid and retaining Curent selected record on view

Hi Guys, I have a live scores program that processes scores directly from 8 separate score machine terminals. Web users can select either of the 8 matches to view, but as soon as the auto refresh kicks in, record 1 is displayed after refreshing. I need to keep the currently selected on screen after the auto refresh .

    Thanks Fred

Re: Auto Refresh Grid and retaining Curent selected record on view

I have tried this and not figured out a 'robust method' to accomplish this. you will have to take charge of the refresh manually instead of automatic. Do you need to refresh the entire grid? If you just refresh the row it will not move the selected row.

If you need to refresh the entire grid the general process I have used is to capture the selected row number in a variable, refresh the grid, then move to the the original selected row, not pretty.

There is probably a better method out there and hopefully someone will chime in.

      Hi Frank, thanks for that.
Yes I do need to refresh the whole grid as there will be lots of match results coming in thick and fast.

I thought about setting a variable to the Group or Table no, just got to find out where exactly how to do this the easiest way.

If the grid only shows 8 rows then you probably could refresh the 8 rows one after the other using setInterval()

          Groups.jpg
Hi Frank, I have 8 Groups of 8 players playing a total of 10 matches in each group. Each group can be selected via the navigation buttons at the bottom of the grid.
See example jpg attached to give you some idea of what I'm trying to do.

Re: Auto Refresh Grid and retaining Curent selected record on view

I see 2 grids, each showing 10 records ; right? I don't see a "selected" record? A record being a rectangle with 2 player names? Is this one web page ? If all you want to do is refresh the result in a record like 13-8-0 of a match in progress then refreshing each record separately will do the job perfectly well. setInterval is only used to run the function that refreshes the 10 records every so many seconds. You could even show an animation during the refresh.

Re: Auto Refresh Grid and retaining Curent selected record on view

Hi Frank, each grid is in fact a separate record within a table called Groups. The sample jpg shows 2 grids together, but they are separate grids. Sorry for the confusion.
I have 8 separate "Operations" within the back end database which when run imports data from the 8 score machines (laptops). This is how I update the scores for each match being played, and then the grid auto refresh updates the grid.

What do you mean by record 1 is displayed after refreshing? I don't see a selected record? Maybe record a small video & narrate that to explain what it is you try to accomplish. Techsmith's Jing is a great tool for that & you can post it on screencast.com all for free

Re: Auto Refresh Grid and retaining Curent selected record on view

Basically, using the navigation buttons to select any of the 8 records, if Record 7 is on screen for example when the auto refresh kicks in, immediately after, the first record (Record 1) appears on screen instead of Record 7 which was being viewed by the user.
Alpha 5 for some reason automatically selects the first record after the Auto Refresh.

                        Hi Frank, server is on.
This is my development machine not the main server. Just email me when you are on there in case the WAS has stopped.

It looks like you show only 1 gridrow on a page so I'd do the following.

Put this in the ongridrendercomplete event:

                          setInterval(function() {var rowNum = {Grid.Object}._selectedRow; {grid.Object}.refreshRow(rowNum);},1000);[/QUOTE]

This will refresh the current gridrow every 1000 milliseconds
